A strong bowling performance from the Mumbai Indians sent them top of the IPL after a 14-run win over Rajasthan Royals.

Replacing the injured Sachin Tendulkar, Aditya Tare was Mumbai's star batsmen as his half-century helped the Indians to 166-8.

Tare hit 59 from 37 balls - smashing eight fours and a six - and shared a 76-run partnership for the second wicket with Dinesh Karthik (21).

No other batsmen managed over 23 although useful contributions throughout meant Mumbai set a challenging total.

In reply, the Royals were in trouble straight away as skipper Rahul Dravid was dismissed in the very first over by Mitchell Johnson.

Dravid stood his ground momentarily and uncharacteristically vented his ire at umpire Sudhir Asnani, who had incorrectly judged him to have got a faint edge.

The Royals were quickly reduced to 28-4 before No.5 Shane Watson, after hitting two big sixes, was caught by Kieron Pollard after the two had earlier exchanged words at the crease.

After celebrating wildly, Pollard went to the boundary edge where Watson was sat to continue the conversation, causing the Aussie to walk away in disgust.

Stuart Binny (37 not out) and Brad Hodge (39), held back to No 8, threatened to turn the match around but the latter was trapped leg before by Lasith Malinga and an all-round solid bowling effort from Mumbai saw them home for an 11th win in 15 games.
