  • Over 50 - England 293/8 (Tredwell 1, Anderson 0)

Tredwell can get only one run from the last two balls of the over, and Sri Lanka eventually squeeze home by seven runs in a game that looked all over halfway through England's run chase. Sangakkara, Malinga and Buttler all breathtakingly good today.
  • WICKET! Buttler run out (Malinga) 121

Brilliance from Malinga. Perfect yorker that Buttler can only dig out straight back to the bowler. Tredwell, for reasons known only to himself, decides to try a single. Even more ludicrously, Buttler runs past him and is run out by half a pitch length. Shame that one of the all-time great innings ends so tamely. But he single-handedly turned this into a contest. Stunning effort.
  • WICKET! Jordan c Dilshan b Malinga 5

Just a single for Buttler from the first ball of the over and Jordan then drills the next one straight to Dilshan at long-on. I think they'll have crossed, so Buttler should be on strike. Probably has to turn down singles now.
  • Over 49 - England 289/6 (Buttler 117, Jordan 4)

Two balls this time for Jordan to get Buttler on strike, and England's keeper somehow manages to get a ball fired in at leg stump through square cover for four. This is one of the all-time great ODI innings. Singles from the next two balls make the equation 13 off seven balls. Buttler happy to take the single from the last ball to keep the strike. England need 12 from the final over. The crowd, who were dozing off during the first half of the run chase, are on their feet.
  • Over 48 - England 281/6 (Buttler 112, Jordan 3)

Even Malinga's yorkers are going for four now, Buttler somehow drilling the ball through mid-off to the fence. Another pair of scampered twos either side of that make it eight runs from the first three balls of the over, but he gets just a single from the fourth. Jordan gives him the strike back for the last ball of the over, but he can't get it past midwicket so Jordan will be on strike at the start of the 49th over with 20 needed for victory.
  • Over 47 - England 271/6 (Buttler 103, Jordan 2)

Jordan takes three balls to get Buttler on strike. But when he does, the England keeper works Mendis into the legside and scampers two to complete a ludicrous 61-ball century that has turned England from no-hopers to favourites. Takes three runs from the last two balls of the over, and England now need 30 off three. Fastest ever ODI hundred for England.
  • Over 46 - England 265/6 (Buttler 98, Jordan 1)

Outrageous hitting from Buttler. What an innings this is. Twice in succession Kulasekara is deposited over extra-cover for six before he channels Ravi and works the next ball into the legside softly enough to scurry back for a second. A couple of scampered singles - one of which would've seen Jordan dismissed by a direct hit - before Buttler hammers the last ball of the over for four more. That could be the over.
  • Over 45 - England 245/6 (Buttler 79, Jordan 0)

Just six runs plus the wicket off Mendis' over. Sri Lanka have had a good last three overs now. Equation now 56 off 30.
  • WICKET! Bopara c Thirimanne b Mendis 51

Huge breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Bopara's superb innings is over as he top-edges a sweep to short fine-leg where Thirimanne takes a simple catch.
  • Over 44 - England 239/5 (Bopara 50, Buttler 75)

Bopara goes through to a superb half-century. Such a busy, industrious innings; it's taken just 44 balls but featured just one four. So many ones turned into twos.
  • Over 43 - England 233/5 (Bopara 48, Buttler 71)

Excellent final over from Senanayake, just three singles from it. England need 68 from seven overs.
  • Over 42 - England 230/5 (Bopara 47, Buttler 69)

Brilliance from Bopara here. He's toying with the field as he twice in succession nudges the ball into the legside and scurries two runs. A misfield from Mathews at mid-off turns a tight one into an easy two, and Sri Lanka are suddenly looking edgy. More outrageous scampering earns Bopara another two for a straight drive past the bowler. Four successive twos for Bopara, and it's 10 off the over.
  • Over 41 - England 220/5 (Bopara 38, Buttler 68)

A brilliant diving stop from Priyanjan on the square-leg boundary saves two runs, but he can do nothing to stop a pull shot two balls later. Another double-digits over for England, who have got the required rate down from 10 to nine in the last half-dozen overs.
  • Over 40 - England 209/5 (Bopara 28, Buttler 67

This is an astonishing innings from Buttler. He's dragged England back into this match from absolutely nowhere. Malinga is swatted over deep square-leg for a huge six and then flicked away past fine-leg for four more. England make 50/0 from the Powerplay. Had I backed the favourite in the runs v wickets competition, I'd have lost my money.
  • Over 39 - England 197/5 (Bopara 27, Buttler 56)

Ten runs from this Senanayake over without a boundary. Some good placement and fine scampering from the batsmen, plus some slightly shoddy work in the field from the Sri Lankans.
  • Over 38 - England 187/5 (Bopara 20, Buttler 53)

Good scampering from Bopara as Malinga's over goes for seven runs. England still just about in this thanks to Buttler.
  • Over 37 - England 180/5 (Bopara 16, Buttler 50)

Buttler flicks Kulasekara to fine-leg for four and then smashes a huge six over long-off to reach his 50 in just 34 balls. Probably a futile effort, but he has hit the only eight boundaries since the ninth over.
  • Over 36 - England 166/5 (Bopara 16, Buttler 36)

Malinga back for the Powerplay. Buttler works him into the legside for a pair of twos before a bouncer sails over his head and is signalled wide.
  • Powerplay

It's Powerplay time. Always leads to runs or wickets, and there's a clear favourite.
  • Over 35 - England 159/5 (Bopara 16, Buttler 31)

Buttler continues to bat like he's the only England player who's realised the target is 301 not 201, steering the last ball of Kulasekara's over past point for four more.
