So a slow and often lifeless pitch proves to be the winner at Trent Bridge. Apart from the novelty of Cook's wicket there was precious little to get excited about in the final two sessions today. Anderson and Broad had given England hope in the morning but the likes of Binny, Jadeja and Kumar ensured that a positive result was taken out of the hosts' reach.
  • Over 123 - India 391/9 (Kumar 63, Shami 4)

Mohammed Shami is the new man in to face Cook's medium pacers. The tailender sizes up two before cutting the last one away to the boundary for four runs. The time has come for India to declare and that is it. Match drawn.
  • Wicket! Ishant c Prior b Cook 13

Cook continues, this time bowling seam, and he gets a wicket! Unbelievable! Ishant Sharma is caught behind down the leg side by Prior, Hot Spot confirming there was a faint edge. What scenes!
  • Over 122 - India 387/8 (Kumar 63, Sharma 13)

The fun and games continue as Gary Ballance gets a bowl. There is a big appeal for caught behind as Kumar sweeps at one around his legs but, alas, Dharmasena doesn't give it out.
  • Over 121 - India 387/7 (Kumar 63, Ishant 13)

So the drinks break is over... and Alastair Cook has brought himself on to bowl!! Looks like he will be employing some right-arm off spin. His first ball is a loopy full toss but he begins to find his rhythm later in the over and even tries a quicker short one with the final deliver. Just two runs from the over.
  • Over 120 - India 385/8 (Kumar 62, Ishant 12)

Kumar sees off three Moeen dot balls before directing another short one through the midwicket area and away to the boundary for four. Drinks are called for but we are close to the point at which India can declare and the match can be called off.
  • Over 119 - India 381/8 (Kumar 58, Sharma 12)

Just one single from Root's 12th over as Kumar sends an inside edge past leg slip.
  • Over 118 - India 380/8 (Kumar 57, Sharma 12)

Moeen sends down a maiden over as we edge closer to the draw.
  • Over 117 - India 380/8 (Kumar 57, Ishant 12)

There is a big shout for caught behind but it looks like Kumar the ground rather than edging Root through to Prior. A late cut down to third man yields two runs, with an earlier Ishant single making it three from the over.
  • Over 116 - India 377/8 (Kumar 55, Ishant 11)

Kumar is full of confidence now and hits Moeen through the covers for another four. The batsmen then trade singles to make it six from the over.
  • Over 115 - India 371/8 (Kumar 50, Ishant 10)

Kumar tries to guide Root past midwicket but a good diving stop prevents the single. Kumar then cuts loose with a heave over midwicket for four before hitting another boundary through the off side for another boundary. A flick down to fine leg for a single brings up his fifty - only the second time a No 9 has scored half-centuries in each innings of a Test match.
  • Over 114 - India 362/8 (Kumar 41, Ishant 10)

Kumar takes a single off Moeen but there is otherwise nothing to report from the over.
  • Over 113 - India 361/8 (Kumar 40, Ishant 10)

Root goes through the motions again, sending down five dot balls to Kumar before the batsman clips him away for a single from the last ball of the over.
  • Over 112 - India 360/8 (Kumar 39, Ishant 10)

Moeen offers up a long hop to Kumar but he cannot give it the full treatment as his heave into the on side finds the fielder at deep midwicket. Ishant does find the boundary later in the over as his pull trickles through a vacant leg-side field for our.
  • Over 111 - India 355/8 (Kumar 38, Ishant 6)

Kumar cuts Root away through the covers for four but only concedes a single from the remainder of the over as India continue to just keep things ticking over.
  • Over 110 - India 350/8 (Kumar 33, Ishant 6)

India score the first runs of the evening session as Kumar and Ishant combine for three singles off Moeen.
  • Over 109 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)

The spin continues with Root and he sends down another maiden with Ishant content to block and pad up.
  • Over 108 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)

Moeen takes the first over after tea and rattles through a maiden with Kumar on strike.
  • Play to resume

There has been no declaration and India's innings will continue shortly. One more session to go and it could possibly be a shortened one as this match meanders towards a draw.
  • Tea

And that is it for the afternoon session. The match is all but over as a contest with India leading by 308 heading into the final session on day five. The only remaining question is whether England will bat again before the match is called off.
