  • Virat Kohlo has also looked at home at the crease, and brought up his fifty in the last over of the day. India still have a long way to go to erase Australia's lead (198 runs at present), but will be start the day confidently with two in-form batsmen at the crease. Australia, apart from Pattinson, struggled to capture wickets with Star spending most of his spell bowling around the wicket with very little threat. Nathan Lyon's line and length were sporadic, and Henriques looked steady but unthreatening. David Warner was outstanding in the field, but Australia will know that they need to strike early tomorrow morning to gain the upper hand - otherwise they will face a long, hard day in the hot Chennai sun.
  • India have fought back well after Pattinson struck early to remove both of their openers, leaving them tottering at 12/2. Tendulkar looked at ease from the moment he came in, and has played a cool, calm and collected innings thus far. Cheteshwar Pujara was looking similarly untroubled and unveiled some classy strokeplay that included some powerful cuts. He, too, was bowled by Pattinson almost out of the blue for 44, after he and Sachin had put on 93 together.
  • Many people are asking why Clarke didn't let his wicket-taker, James Pattinson, have another go before the close of play. He doesn't seem to be carrying an injury, so one can only assume it was a tactical decision. Three wickets from six overs is a pretty good return, and it makes the decision even more confusing. We'll have to see what Michael Clarke has to say during the press conference this evening.
  • Over 52 - Lyon - Ind 182/3 - 1-0-1-1-0-0

A little leg-side clip from Kohli is in the air for a little while, but wasn't too close to Warner at mid-wicket. That David Warner is everywhere in the field today, isn't he? Good grief. Tendulkar also gets a single, and brings Virat on strike with his score on 49. He gets his half-century, another clip off the legs and acknowledges the crowd who cheer warmly for him. It's been a good innings from him, and he's played confidently. Sachin blocks the last ball of the day, and India end the day on 182/3.
  • Over 51 - Starc- Ind 179/3 - 0-0-0-0-0-1

Warner fields flamboyantly in the gully again; great performance in the field from the opening bat. Starc has a good yorker, and he employs it here - it's a bit wide, and Sachin is able to keep it out with little fuss. Maiden over, and we edge ever closer to the end of the day's play. India, incidentally, are one run away from avoiding the follow-on.
  • Over 50 - Lyon - Ind 179/3 - 2-0-0-0-4-0

Kohli drives to cover, didn't try to thwack the cover off it at this stage. Two runs are his reward, and he decides to go for a wide, full one. Good footwork, square cover drive, and the ball is stroked sweetly for four. Classy driving from Virat in this innings, he really has looked good.
  • Over 49 - Starc - Ind 173/3 - 2-1-0-0-4-0

Kohli picks up a double and a single to mid-wicket and third man respectively; Starc gives Sachin a slower ball, which the little man sticks a bat out at, but it gets to Wade after the second bounce. There was a little nick on that, but safe. Starc decides to return to bowling over the wicket, but spurts out a full, leg-side effort that Sachin effortlessly glances off his pads for four.
  • Over 48 - Lyon - Ind 166/3 - 0-4-0-0-1-0

Lyon flighting it a bit more now. Virat hits against the spin, got well to the pitch and that's a sweetly-timed cover drive from him for four. Glorious! He drops one a bit short again, and is worked around the corner to fine-leg for yet another single - he's seen that sight a lot today, has Nathan.
  • Over 47 - Starc - Ind 161/3 - 0-0-0-1-0-1

Matthew Wade gets hit in the chest with the ball getting to him on the second bounce - ouch. There has been a bit of variable bounce today; yet another reason why Starc needs to make the batsmen play at this late stage.
  • Over 46 - Lyon - Ind 159/3 - 1-1-1-0-0-1

Easy pickings for India as Lyon returns; still not quite getting his length right is the spinner. There's a brief flutter from the fielders as Tendulkar pads one away, but all in all a quiet over. Six overs are left in today's play now here in Chennai.
  • Over 45 Starc - Ind 156/3 - 0-0-0-0-1-0

Mitchell Starc returns and fires a wide one way down leg - Matthew Wade does well to dive and prevent any byes. He's still bowling around the wicket, and it's a little puzzling as to why he's still persisting with it. Kohli gets a half-volley, but plays it safe and they go through for a single.
  • Over 44 - Henriques - Ind 155/3 - 0-1-0-0-0-1

The fifty partnership between these two is upon us, coming off 88 deliveries. Some slightly lower bounce from Henriques, he lets out a loud grunt with the effort of delivering the ball. Tendulkar keeps it quiet defending out of the middle of the bat.
  • Over 43 - Clarke - Ind 154/3 - 0-1-1-0-0-2

Clarke keeps himself on, bowling over the wicket to try and make use of a bit of rough outside the right-handers' leg-stump. Tendulkar responds by sweeping. Virat responds to a full-toss by thwacking it disdainfully in front of square, but mid-wicket keeps them down to two. Lucky for Clarke, that deserved to be swatted for a boundary.
  • Over 42 Henriques - Ind 150/3 - 0-1-0-0-1-0

Warner flinging himself around again, but this time the dive can't stop Kohli from getting a run. The 150 comes up for India, and along with it: another milestone for the little master. 3500 runs in Tests against Australia is nothing to sniff it, and the crowd stand to applaud.
  • Over 41 Clarke - Ind 148/3 - 0-1-4-0-4-1

Clarke bowls and Tendulkar puts his hand up to say that he's not ready, but Clarke delivers the ball and hits the stump, getting Matthew Wade all excited. Its not out, of course, and the umpire signals dead ball. After a single, Virat opens the face and unleashes a lovely off-drive. Pattinson gives chase and dives, but can only drag the ball over the boundary with him for four. Not content with that, Virat does the same thing two balls later - squarer this time, and no one is there to stop it. Ten off that over from the skipper. Will that be his only over today?
  • The captain bringing himself on; it's time for some left-arm spin from Michael Clarke. He replaces Peter Siddle.
  • Over 40 - Lyon - Ind 138/3 - 0-0-0-1-0-0

Just a single from this Henriques over, but it does bring up yet another milestone for Sachin Tendulkar: 7000 Test runs scored in India. Phenomenal.
  • Over 39 Siddle - Ind 137/3 - 0-1-0-0-0-0

Warner has been good in the field today, and he throws himself in the air to stop that ball - spectacular, and the crowd love it as its replayed on the big screen. Great effort - shades of Jonty Rhodes for sure. Tendukar hasn't had much of the strike in the last few overs, and he gets a single early on in this one to continue Virat's lion share of the strike. A good ball from Siddle moves away from Virat who plays and misses - he's furious with himself! Could so easily have been nicked.
  • Over 38 Henriques - Ind 136/3 - 0-0-0-0-0-0

The ball looks like its reversing a little bit; Moises is able to reverse the ball, so Australia will be hoping to use it to good effect. Another wicket or two before the close would put them firmly in the pound seats. Wade no longer up to the stumps to Moises either, who pitches the ball full and gets himself a maiden over.
