With the world number one ODI ranking up for grabs, one could say that India has not quite lived up to expectations that may have existed. Pakistan ended up victorious by 6 wickets in the 49th over. Seeking to continue their recent ODI winning streak against Pakistan, the Tendulkarless Indians could have grabbed the number one spot with a 3-0 series victory but they fell at the first hurdle. Pakistan outplayed them in every department after commencing the days play after a delayed start with some fluent straight old fashioned fast bowling. Juniad being the pick of the seamers. Dhoni was India's stand out batsman with a captains knock but they needed a bigger team effort and the captain's century was not enough. There was some early encouragment for India though as debutant Kumar struck with his first delivery in ODI cricket with an inswinger that anyone would be proud of, however, the rest of the attack could not apply and maintain enough pressure on the Pakistan batsmen. The chasing team at some stages made it look more difficult than it was, but you have to compliment their winning mentality as in the end, they seemed to have wanted it more, with their opening batsmen staying their until the end to score his 2nd ODI ton. India will seek significant improvements especially from their slower bowlers if they are to get anything from this series.
  • Over 49 Dinda 4-

228/4 Malik only uses one delivery Dinda's over to finish it off as he wildly pulls through a vacant mid wicket for four. Something suggests that the Indian team are grateful that it ended there. Pakistan seemed determined to make them stay in the field until the 50th over, but in the end it was a clinical victory by the visitors.
  • Over 48 Sharma 0-1-0-0-1-1

221/4 And still, they are not in the slightest hurry, Pakistan, as they knock this total off in the gentlest of fashion. Jamshed play a nice stroke towards the end of the over though but it finds a fielfer in rapid time and they only get one. Three in total off the over. 4 to win from 12 balls now.
  • Over 47 Dinda 2lb-1-2-1-0-0

221/4 - Jamshed faces in expectation of a great milestone and Dinda smacks him on the helmet which the team get two leg byes for. Immediately thereafter he gets the run required to take him to his second ODI century and that is as good as it will get under such pressure. Fair to say not the same extent of pressure that Dhoni was under but considering his opening partner went first ball, he will treat this century as a really special one. That over ends with six off it and Pakistan are just about home with 7 required to win off the last three overs.
  • Over 46 Sharma 0-0-2-1-2-0

215/4 Jamshed moves onto 98 with an offside drive followed by another single and the young talent is now 1 away from his century. Malik has scratched together a handy 25 thus far and Ashwin will still be rueing the dismissal that could not be given due to overstepping. Five from that over and Jamshed will get the strike as he goes for his 100. 13 to win from 24.
  • Over 45 Kumar 0-2-1-1-0-4

210/4 - The vistors moving along not so swiftly and are looking to ease out the victiry. There's a boundary though which should eliminate any risky strokes towards the very end. A lovely stroke by Malik as he once more waits for the last moment before guiding it fine of third man. The need 18 from 30 and should coast along towards that total.
  • Over 44 Dinda 1-0-0-1-1-2

202/4 - The 200 come up for Pakistan and they now require 28 to win from 37. They seem to be making the 50 overs count and have really paced this innings. Almost too carefully one could say. They're undoubtedly still in the driving seat though.
  • Over 43 Kumar 4-1-1-0-0-1

196/4 Young gun and debutant re-enters the attack and goes for four off his first delivery with Malik playing it late and fine down to third man, placing immediate pressure on Kumar. Jamshed in the nineties though and deserving of a century should he get there, having started this innings in the heat and humidity and carrying through until now. Kumar has used his allotted short deliveries to good effect and has continued that in this over. It almost leads to the dismissal of Malik but his mistimed pull shot clears the fielder to earn him a single.
  • Over 42 Ashwin 1-1-1-1-2-1nb-1

189/4 - Once more there is no sense of pressure with the batsman allowed to keep the scoreboard trickling. After scoring off every delivery of the over except the last one, Malik cuts at one that was not wide enough and edges it for Dhoni to grab simple, yet sharp catch behind the stumps. But hang on. The umpires chek for a no ball and replays show that Ashwin has no part of his foot grounded behind the line, which means its a triplpe whammy. A no ball, a free hit, and a stroll back to the crease for Malik. That simply is not good enough, especially for a slow bowler.
  • Over 41 Kohli 2-1-1-2-1-1

181/4 Too easy again for Pakistan with Kohli back in the attack. He has added very little to the team from a bowling perspective. That is a poor bowling change by the skipper. To add to the unpleasantness of the matter, he seems to have injured himself and it doesn't look good at all. He has twisted over on his knee in his follow through and is down on the ground and looks like he's in some serious pain. A stretcher has arrived to carry him off which he's declined and he walks off the field with the help of the physio team for some treatment. Raina will complete the one ball that remains of the over. Malik faces it and picks it away for a single.
  • Over 40 Ashwin 0-1-0-0-0-0

173/4 And that wicket has thrown the cat among the pigeons. Pakistan almost give away a needless dismissal but India miss a run out opportunity. This is better from India. Malik looks unsettled and almost scoops one straight back to Ashwin. He contrives to be eluded of runs and is yet to get off the mark with some wayward defensive strokes.
  • Over 39 Sharma 1-W-0-0-0-0

171/3 WICKET! Sharma undoes Misbah with a brilliantly executed slower delivery. Is there a twist yet? India now, contrary post the earlier wicket that fell has to maintain any pressure that comes from Misbah's dismissal. If they do so, Pakistan may very well rue their slow run rate which in honesty they could have accelerated with much more aplomb. Salim Malik is the next man in and Sharma welcomes him with some steep bounce and Malik sees the over through without getting off the mark.
  • Over 38 Ashwin 1-1-0-1-0-0

171/3 India encouraging some variety here as they bring Ashwin back into the attack. The batting partners rotate the strike and the left and right hand combination continues to work with ease. Both batsmen are choosing where they want to hit the ball and any periods of containment are short lived. India's extremely slow over rate is not helping them.
  • Over 37 Dinda 1-0-0-0-0-2

168/3 A lovely over by Dinda that. Making Misbah work for his runs and getting him in the ribs with a slower ball bouncer. The batsman almost sneaks a boundary but third man cuts it off with some sharp fielding. Only 3 from the over, but once more, it's wickets that are sorely needed.
  • Over 36 Sharma 1-1-1-0-2-0

160/3 After what appeared a lengthy drinks break, Sharma continues his attempts to breakthrough here, but one feels that continental drift will proceed at a faster rate. The batsmen look oh so comfortable. Decent effort from Sharma though, pitching them up and bowling straight which is pretty much all he can do barring the odd change of pace.
  • Over 35 Dinda 1-1-1-1-0-1

160/3 - Dhoni calls mod on and mid off into the circle and Misbah immediately plays a shot attempting to clear them. He doesn't time it well but no harm is done as it lands safely in front of square for one run. 68 runs required from 90 deliveries.
  • Over 34 Sharma 1-0-0-1-0-1

152/3 Dhoni doing what he can to create something here and he does so by sending Sharma back into the attack. All he manages is to contain the batsmen temporarily which does little for the cause. Only wickets can help here, and it's needed in a hurry. Jamshed has calmed down again slightly and they settle for three off that over.
  • Over 33 Dinda 0-1-1-0-1-2

152/3 DROPPED! Yuvraj who you;d normally bet your home on to catch puts down a difficult chance off the bowling of Dinda. It has to go down as a chance though and who knows how it could have turned out with Jamshed back in the hut? Jamshed having a few swats in this over so he seems unfazed by the near end of his innings. Pakistan now need 76 to win off 102 balls.
  • Over 32 Kohli 0-4-1-1-1-0

147/3 Misbah Ul-Haq wastes no time in getting in on the action and whacks a boundary through mid wicket via a good pull shot. The wicket seems to have had no impact on Pakistan's momentum and they continue to score off almost every delivery. Seven from that over and the Indian captain will not be happy.
  • Over 31 Dinda 0-W-0-1-0wd-4-1

140/3 Dhoni passes the ball to one of his seamers in search of a breakthrough and Dinda is the man entrusted with the request. This seems interesting. Dinda thinks he has complied with the request as Jamshed strikes a well timed shot to the covers. The fielder claims the catch but the umpires think he took it on the half volley. To be certain, the two umpires confer and now they're checking upstairs. Ashwin appears very confident and it is very close to call according to the replays. It looks.....good. Will it be given? Yes - Dinda strikes and Khan heads to the pavillion. Raina identifying the humour in the situation and curling his finger along with umpire Billy Bowden. Is it too little too late? We will know soon enough. A great knock by Khan though. He was composed throughout and his captain Misbah Ul-Haq replaces him at the crease. Jamshed smashes a boundary to curtail the excitement amongst the fielding team to end the over.
