D/L method:
The official news is that play has been called off due to bad weather. Sri Lanka have won this ODI under the D/L method by 14 runs. Rain had the final say, but we saw some good batting performances from Watling, Taylor, Nicol and then Dilshan and Mahela. -
D/L update
At this stage the D/L par score is 104 for Sri Lanka are ahead. Apparently, this is the heaviest rains so far today. If play resumes there will be a revised target as we have lost too much time. -
Over 23 McCullum 1-1-1-0-0
NZ need to keep taking wickets because the required rate is not too high for SL. The bad news is that the ground staff is ready to bring on the covers, in the middle of the McCullum over as rain starts again. -
Over 22 Nicol 0-1-1-0-0-1
A quiet over from Nicol, just three from it. The current rate is higher than the required, SL are moving along nicely towards the target. -
Over 21 McCullum 0-4-1-0-1-0
McCullum continues. SL is ahead on the D/L method. The par score is 98 after 20 overs. No question of a wash out now. Four, Mahela drives it past cover for four, another commanding shot. -
Over 20 Nicol 1wd-1-0-1-0-2lb
The 100 comes up for Sri Lanka, as another spinner comes into the attack. Taking the pace off the ball may work on this pitch, but NZ will need to keep taking wickets. After the end of 20 overs it is 106 for 3. -
Over 19 McCullum 1-W-0-1-0-1
McCullum comes into the attack to put a spin on things. WICKET! McCullum gets the breakthrough they needed. Dilshan goes for 37. Williamson takes the catch, the spinner gets the wicket. Angelo Mathews is the new man in. -
Over 18 Franklin 1-1-0-0-4-0
With Hira not playing today, the NZ attack looks one dimensional. A couple of singles and a handy boundary. -
Over 17 Mills 4-1-0-4-1-0
Mills brought back into the attack, to pick up a wicket. Four, Mahela looks like he is middling the ball well. He slaps this one past point for a handsome four. Dilshan joins the action with a boundary at deep midwicket to bring up the 50 run partnership. -
Over 16 Franklin 1-0-0-0-1-3
NZ should be looking for a wicket here, SL are scoring comfortably. Just two singles and a three from the over, the hosts playing old fashioned ODI cricket. -
Over 15 Southee 3-0-1-1-0-0
Southee to Mahela who gets three from the first ball. A couple of singles to make it 5 from this over. SL doing it comfortably here, just chipping away at this total. -
Over 14 Franklin 0-1-0-0-4-0
Franklin introduced into the attack. Dilshan is looking quiet and composed today, unlike his natural self. Four, just when we thought Dilshan was quiet he plays a good shot for four. The required rate and the current rate very close to each other, SL going at a good pace. -
Over 13 Southee 0-1wd-0-4-1-0
Southee to Mahela, who is playing a classy knock so far. Four, this time between midwicket and mid-on, another really classy shot. Six runs from that over, SL are 66 for 2. -
Over 12 Boult 4-0-0-0-0-1
Boult to continue. Four, Mahela carves it between point and cover for four, a classy shot from a classy batsman. Just the four and a single from the over, SL maintaining their run rate at 5. -
Over 11 Southee 1-1-1-0-1-2lb
SL will need to keep an eye on the run rate and the number of wickets they lose. Once 20 overs are bowled, D/L method will make each over and each wicket important. After 11 overs, SL are going at 5 runs per over. -
Over 10 Boult 0-0-1-0-1-0
Boult continues from the other end. SL will look to regroup and rebuild after the rain delay. NZ can sneak in a few cheap overs in the mean time. Just a couple of singles from the over. After 10 overs, SL are 49 for 2. -
Over 9 Southee 1lb-1wd-0-0-1lb-0-0
Southee to replace Mills after the break. A couple of leg byes and a wide in that over. -
Over 8 Boult 0-2-W-1wd-0-4-0
