Australia win the second NatWest ODI by 88 runs after a dominant display in Manchester and - after Friday's washout at Headingley - lead the five-match series 1-0. Clarke's 105 set up a total of 315-7 after Australia had been sent in. England collapsed to 169-8 before Buttler hit 75 to see them up to 227 all out, McKay finishing with 3-47. The series continues with a day-nighter at Edgbaston on Wednesday, join us then for more commentary. Bye for now.
  • Finn c Voges b McKay 16

Finn is caught at deep midwicket by Voges. England are all out for 227. Australia win by 88 runs and lead the NatWest Series 1-0.
  • Over 44 - England 226/8 (Finn 16, Rankin 0)

Finn, now joined by last man Rankin, takes England's requirement into double figures by smashing the penultimate ball of Ahmed's over for six and following up by bunting a full toss back down the ground for four. England need 90 from 36 balls (required-rate: 15.00).
  • Over 43 - England 212/8 (Buttler 71, Finn 6)

Buttler goes big again, blasting McKay back over his head for six. All about the bottom hand. Buttler keeps the strike with a single off the final delivery of the over, a slower ball. England need 104 from 42 balls (required-rate: 14.84).
  • Over 42 - England 203/8 (Buttler 63, Finn 5)

Johnson completes his 10-over allocation for figures of 2-36 and, if anything, deserved better. He did the early damage and has been quick, accurate and hostile throughout.
  • Over 41 - England 201/8 (Buttler 62, Finn 4)

Buttler heaves another Faulkner slower ball all the way to midwicket, he's not given up on this one just yet. Later in the over, Finn is almost stranded after being sent back following some indecision but makes it back safely in the end.
  • Over 40 - England 193/8 (Buttler 55, Finn 3)

Buttler is unsuccessful with an attempted ramp against Johnson but doesn't miss out on a wide ball, drilling it over cover for four.
  • Over 39 - England 187/8 (Buttler 50, Finn 2)

Buttler's six reduces the equation to 129 needed from 66 balls for England (required-rate: 11.72).
  • 50

Buttler brings up his maiden ODI half-century (49b, 3x4 1x6) by clubbing a Faulkner slower ball for six to midwicket.
  • Over 38 - England 180/8 (Buttler 44, Finn 1)

Johnson returns to the attack with the idea of roughing up Finn. There is a slip in place and Finn wears a short ball on the body before managing to get off strike with a one-handed pull that drops safely into the leg side. Buttler is beaten all ends up by a quick delivery but the next one disappears through the covers for four in fine style. England made 29-3 in the power play.
  • Over 37 - England 173/8 (Buttler 38, Finn 0)

Buttler does finally end the boundary drought with a cover drive after Faulkner offered a touch of width. Finn has joined Buttler in the middle. England need 143 from 78 balls (required-rate: 11).
  • Tredwell run out (Finch/Faulkner) 1

Tredwell's stay is brief, run out after coming back for a second to deep midwicket. Tredwell's not the quickest and ended up well short.
  • Over 36 - England 167/7 (Buttler 33, Tredwell 0)

McKay is running through his full repertoire of slower balls. Even the short ball that got rid of Stokes was a variation. Tredwell is the new batsman.
  • Stokes c Bailey b McKay 5

Stokes plays too early on his pull shot and the resulting top edge loops high to Bailey at fine-leg.
  • Over 35 - England 163/6 (Buttler 32, Stokes 3)

England haven't hit a boundary since the 27th over. They are going down without much of a fight at the moment, just ones and twos again during Faulkner's latest over.
  • Over 34 - England 156/6 (Buttler 28, Stokes 0)

Stokes is not the worst No.8 in England history but that's a good job as 162 runs are still needed. That is down to 160 after Buttler picks up a couple of runs from the final ball of McKay's over but the required-rate has hit double figures.
  • Morgan c Clarke b McKay 54

McKay makes the breakthrough with the fourth ball of the batting powerplay, Morgan skewing a drive to Clarke, who takes a running catch deep in the covers.
  • Power Play

England have decided to take the batting power play. The fielding restrictions are back in place for overs 34-38.
  • Over 33 - England 151/5 (Morgan 52, Buttler 25)

Faulkner is into the attack again. He is noted for his back-of-the-hand slower balls. Buttler turns one into two with a good piece of running but again it's just ones and twos for England, who still have the five-over batting powerplay to use (latest they can do so is from overs 36-40). Time for drinks at Old Trafford. Too right!
  • Over 32 - England 143/5 (Morgan 50, Buttler 21)

Morgan completes his 18th ODI half-century (65b, 4x4) with a single from the final delivery of Ahmed's over. England require 171 from 108 balls (required-rate: 9.50).
