  • Sri Lanka Win By 209 Runs

Pakistan resigned to defeat inside four days and, for their woe, cop a one-nil deficit in the three-match affair. They really missed the banned Misbah, while a handful of shaky umpiring calls didn't help their cause. Sri Lanka will be happy with the balance of their XI, and Perera is going to find it hard to squeeze in. The second match gets underway at the SSC in Colombo on Saturday. Spot you then. Cheers.
  • Over 114 Randiv 4b-4-0-0-4-W

300-10 - The game should be over, but Khan is entirely fortunate as the ball rolls onto the stumps but doe't topple the bails. Boundaries, meanwhile, still flowing as Pakistan look to at least not conceded their biggest Test defeat to Sri Lanka by runs. WICKET! They can't, though, with another bat-pad decision - caught at short-leg - resigning Pakistan to a 209-run defeat. That's eight runs worse since the 2004 loss they suffered in Faisalabad.
  • Over 113 Kulasekara 0-4-0-0-4-0

288-9 - Adnan bashes a couple of fours, but is ultimately lucky not to be given out lbw. That struck him on the front pad dead enough in front of the stumps. The umpire, though, thought it was slipping past leg-stump. It wa't, believe me.
  • Over 112 Randiv 0-W-0-0-0-0

280-9 - WICKET! One more breakthrough and Sri Lanka will have first blood of the series. Gul played off the backfoot, fended at it, missed and watched on on as the ball ballooned from pad to body and into the close-in fielder's hands. Up goes the appeal, and the umpire's finger, but there is no proper evidence of bat. That's a dodgy dismissal. Ajmal is the last man in.
  • Over 111 Kulasekara 1wd-0-0-0-0-0-0

280-8 - The fast bowler is back into the attack, so the batsmen call for helmets, and take their sweet time in donning 'em. Jayawardene i't happy as the opposition eat away at his extra half hour. When the over eventually does start, Akmal is quick to deadbat anything and everything sent down to him.
  • Over 110 Randiv 1-0-0-0-0-0

279-8 - Gul now using his feet down the track, and quick to combat Randiv's leg-side line. This i't exactly negative bowling, he is genuinely looking to exploit the rough off a good length.
  • Over 109 Herath 0-0-0-1-0-0

278-8 - Akmal beaten by the turn and Prassana quick to whip off the bails, but the batsman's backfoot is firmly behind the line. The quicker delivery is later wayward, and Adnan is happy to take the single. Gul obliges in turn, sound on the defence in closing the over. Will Sri Lanka take the extra 30 minutes? Yes, Jayawardene wants it, so it's on with the show.
  • Over 108 Randiv 0-0-0-1-0-4

277-8 - Akmal stays rooted to his crease for the bulk of the over, then decides it's time to dance down the track in a bid to push a single down the ground. Gul is thus offered the strike, and almost perishes in the process. Getting in a big lunge, the tail-enders forward defence is nearly beaten.
  • Over 107 Herath 0-4-0-0-1-0

272-8 - Big, premeditated sweep from Akmal, who fetches four for his effort, but then almost turns the next delivery into the hands of short fine-leg. Gul only has to face the last ball of the over on the back of a fine display in farming the strike.
  • Over 106 Randiv 0-W-1-0-0-0

267-8 - WICKET! Rehman tries to smash Randiv, but only manages to scoop it into the clouds. Kumar Sangakkara does well to get under it despite needing to dive in the end. They cross while the ball is in the air so Akmal gets a single off the next ball. Umar Gul is the new man.
  • Over 105 Herath 0-0-0-0-0-0

266-7 - Maiden to Akmal, who seems to have retreated into his shell after a positive start.
  • Over 104 Randiv 0-0-1-0-0-0

266-7 - Sri Lanka have around 10 more overs to get the last three wickets if they want to avoid going into day five. So far it's looking like we might be here tomorrow. One run from it.
  • Over 103 Herath 0-0-0-4-4-0

265-7 - Rehman's not shy against Herath, and steps to the ball to bludgeon it T20 style to the long off boundary. He gets another four the next ball, sweeping it to fine leg.
  • Over 102 Randiv 0-0-0-0-0-0

257-7 - Well, look at that. Randiv is suddenly the more effective bowler. He adds a maiden to his tally as Akmal defends.
  • Over 101 Herath 1-4-0-0-0-0

257-7 - Rehman doe't have the same issue with Herath for some reachon and smites him to the boundary past mid wicket. He deals with the rest of the over easily enough.
  • Over 100 Randiv 0-0-0-0-0-0

252-7 - Rehman has pretty much no idea what the ball is doing. Being a lefty, the ball is pitching in the rough bowlers' footmarks and he's having all sorts of issues. One delivery gets an edge, before a big appeal for leg before, but it hits outside the line. He's lucky it's not a wicket-maiden.
  • Over 99 Herath 1-0-0-0-0-0

252-7 - After a single off the first ball, Akmal gets his defence on and couldn't lunge lower or further if he tries. Well blocked, sir!
  • Over 98 Randiv 0-0-0-0-4-0

251-7 - Randiv comes into the attack, presumably to allow Herath to change ends. Akmal hits into the outfield but turns down the single, before whacking the ball to the cover boundary.
  • Over 97 Pradeep 1-0-2-0-0-1

247-7 - Rehman gets off the mark with a single, before Akmal punches through mid wicket for two. He gets another one off the last ball.
  • Over 96 Herath 0-0-0-0-0-0

243-7 - Maiden, as Akmal defends manfully. Sri Lanka are looking much livelier in the field now.
