Jamie Pipe's career ended on a losing note when another impressive innings from Tom Maynard guided the Glamorgan Dragons to a five-wicket victory against Derbyshire.

The Derbyshire wicketkeeper captained the team in his last match before he retires to becomes the club's physiotherapist but the Phantoms total of 214 - 9 was overhauled with seven balls to spare.

James Allenby followed his two for 23 with 60 and Maynard made an unbeaten 69 off 61 balls to carry the Dragons to their target in the last match to be played at Derby in an east/west direction before the square is turned next season.

Derbyshire, who are changing the name of their one-day team in 2010 to the Falcons lost Wayne Madsen to the first ball of the match when he edged David Harrison to first slip.

Chris Ashling then had Greg Smith, who was presented with his Derbyshire cap during the interval, lbw for 11 and Chesney Hughes drove Adam Shantry to cover after scoring 27 from 30 balls.

Dan Redfern also made 27 before he tried to run a ball from Allenby and was caught behind and Garry Park missed out on a half century when he played on.

When Paul Borrington was lbw to Dean Cosker for 25 and Pipe drove back a return catch, Derbyshire were in danger of falling short of a competitive total.

But Graham Wagg dispatched Cosker over long on for six and drove Ashling into the crowd before he skied Harrison to cover going for another big shot.

Harrison bowled Ross Whiteley for a duck but Jon Clare boosted the home side's total by hitting the last two balls of the innings for four.

Wagg then struck an early blow by bowling Jamie Dalrymple, who had scored centuries in both championship matches against Derbyshire this season, but Allenby got the Dragons back on track with a half century off 52 balls.

Park bowled him with one that nipped back and the Phantoms were back in it when Will Bragg was lbw for 26 sweeping at Jake Needham's off-spin in the 22nd over.

Maynard and Ben Wright tilted the odds back in Glamorgan's favour with a stand of 66 in 10 overs but Madsen took his first wickets for Derbyshire in successive overs to leave the game in the balance.

Wright was bowled for 26 as he tried to turn the ball for a single and then Madsen held a diving return catch when Nick James got a leading edge.

The Dragons went into the last five overs needing 37 but Maynard eased the pressure with a switch-hit to bring up a run-a-ball 50 and the game slipped away from the Phantoms when Mark Wallace and Maynard dispatched Park to the ropes.

Maynard sealed victory in the 39th over when another flowing drive beat Hughes' despairing dive on the cover boundary to end Pipe's hopes for a winning final bow.
