Wayne White scored his maiden first-class half-century and Claude Henderson a season's best 71 to spearhead a Leicestershire recovery against Glamorgan on the second day of their rain-affected County Championship clash at Grace Road.

After the start was delayed by an hour, Leicestershire lost five wickets for 30 runs in a 10-over spell to slump to 87 for six.

But White and Henderson shared an eighth-wicket stand of 120 and Leicestershire closed on 269 for nine.

Seamers Garnett Kruger and James Harris each claimed three wickets for Glamorgan and Chris Ashling picked up two on a day when another 26 overs were lost to the weather.

The home side resumed on 39 for one and immediately ran into early problems, with Paul Nixon bowled by a fine delivery from Kruger that took out the middle stump. Nixon had made a gritty 32, but his departure signalled the middle order collapse.

Leicestershire captain Boeta Dippenaar quickly followed with Kruger clinging on to a good return catch, while teenager Josh Cobb edged an away-swinging delivery from Harris to wicketkeeper Mark Wallace.

Next to go was Tom New, trapped lbw by the same bowler, and in the last order before lunch James Benning was also adjudged lbw, this time off the bowling of Ashling.

It meant that Leicestershire had slumped from 62 for two to 87 for six in a 10-over spell.

When the in-form James Taylor chopped a delivery from Harris back into his stumps with the total at 95, the home side looked in serious danger of not claiming a batting point.

But White and Henderson came together in a century partnership that completely transformed the game.

Both of them looked comfortable on a pitch that was still giving some help to the bowlers and maintained their concentration despite another series of interruptions because of rain showers.

White, who joined Leicestershire from Derbyshire this season, reached his fifty with a pull to the boundary of Ashling. His half-century came off 92 balls, with seven fours, and was the first of his career.

But, having made 68 out of the stand of 120 in 31 overs, White fell to the spin of James Dalrymple, chopping the ball back into his stumps as he tried to cut. He finished with 10 boundaries in his 115-ball innings.

Glamorgan continued to be kept at bay as Iain O'Brien joined Henderson in another good partnership for the ninth wicket.

With Henderson reaching his fifty off 96 balls, the pair put on 52 before O'Brien fell lbw to Ashling for 28, with the score at 267.

A couple of runs later bad light brought the close with three overs still remaining.

Henderson was still there on 71 off 135 balls to complete a fine recovery by the home side.
