Only 17.3 overs were possible as rain and bad light decimated the first day of Leicestershire's LV County Championship Division Two game against Glamorgan at Grace Road.
The start was delayed by 90 minutes and there were four further stoppages before play was finally called off for the day with Leicestershire on 39 for 1.
Glamorgan, who still have a chance of promotion, had no hesitation in deciding to bowl first in the damp and cloudy conditions after winning the toss.
The South African fast bowler Garnett Kruger, who left Leicestershire to join Glamorgan at the end of last season, made an early breakthrough, uprooting Matt Boyce's middle stump with an excellent delivery in his first over.
After that it was a battle for survival for Paul Nixon and Boeta Dippenaar between the showers as Kruger and James Harris continued to exploit the conditions.
Nixon survived lbw appeals by both bowlers but also capitalised on anything loose with a couple of early boundaries.
Dippenaar was more cautious but also collected a couple of fours as the players continued to troop to and from the pavilion at regular intervals.
It made life difficult for both sides and finally, 45 minutes before the scheduled close and with rain starting again, the umpires abandoned play for the day.
