Lancashire's new recruit Tom Lungley helped his new side turn the tables on Yorkshire on the second day of the LV County Championship match at Headingley Carnegie.
Despite a fine unbeaten century from Mark Chilton, who made 111, Lancashire were still dismissed for 276.
However, Yorkshire quickly hit trouble against Kyle Hogg and
Lungley, who made his Red Rose debut in the previous game against Durham, and they had struggled to 131 for five by the close.
Lungley, a 30-year-old seamer who recently joined from December, finished with three for 40 off 12 overs.
Off the very first ball of the Yorkshire innings, Jacques Rudolph cut Hogg into the hands of fellow South African Francois du Plessis at point.
Although skipper Anthony McGrath helped himself to three boundaries in an over from Oliver Newby, it was not long before Lungley chipped in with a double strike to reduce Yorkshire to 35 for three.
Lancashire signed Lungley to strengthen a side hit by the injury or unavailability of several of their leading fast bowlers, and he also struck with his first delivery of the innings, thanks to a brilliant overhead catch at deep mid-wicket by Steven Croft.
McGrath did not quite get hold of a pull and Croft, running towards the boundary, judged the catch to perfection as he dived forward.
There was another success for Lungley in his next over when Andrew Gale got a leading edge as he shaped to play on the legside and he provided the bowler with a gentle return catch.
Yorkshire went in to tea on a shaky 38 for three, opener Joe Sayers having spent 34 deliveries making eight, and the left-hander enjoyed two escapes on the resumption, wicketkeeper Luke Sutton putting him down off Hogg and Mal Loye failing to hold on to a hard slash at Lungley which flew to his right at gully.
Loye hurt his right hand in the process and at the end of the over left the field for treatment but was able to return later.
Jonny Bairstow appeared to be settling in well and he caressed Newby through extra cover for four but the next ball seemed to stop on him and in trying to pull out of a legside shot he, too, gave a simple return catch to the bowler.
A short stoppage for rain left Yorkshire on 68 for four and when play resumed Lungley caused more damage in his splendid spell from the Kirkstall Lane end, trapping Sayers lbw for 17 with a ball of full-length.
Yorkshire had lost half their wickets for 72 but at least Brophy and Bresnan were able to see off Lungley who was rested with exemplary figures of three for 28 from 10 overs.
The sixth-wicket pair continued to keep the attack at bay and their sixth wicket stand was worth 59 by stumps when Brophy was 13 and the more aggressive Bresnan 46 with eight fours.
After a 20-minute delay to the start of the day, Lancashire continued their first innings on 226 for seven with Chilton on 73, but further rain meant only 3.2 overs were possible in the morning session.
There was another short break early in the afternoon before conditions improved and Lungley soon fended a short ball from Bresnan to Bairstow at gully.
Chilton moved into the 90s by pulling Rashid to the fence, but the leg-spinner picked up his fourth wicket of the innings by bowling Newby before last man, Gary Keedy, partnered Chilton to a flawless century off 231 balls with ten fours.
A valuable 24 had been added for Lancashire's tenth wicket when Rashid had Keedy caught at the second attempt by Gale at short leg to give the England one-day all-rounder his second five-wicket haul in consecutive Championship innings.
