Chris Rogers scored his third LV County Championship century of the season as Derbyshire continued to turn the screw on bottom of the table Leicestershire at Grace Road.
The Australian left-hander, who had a brief spell at Leicestershire four years ago, made an unbeaten 122 as Derbyshire closed the second day on 277 for two - a lead of 100 runs.
Rogers shared a second wicket partnership of 83 with Garry Park and an unbroken stand of 145 with Greg Smith, who finished the day on 74 not out.
Leicestershire's only success in the 60 overs of play possible was the wicket of Park who was bowled for 41.
The day's play was delayed by three and a half hours following steady rain during the morning which meant a loss of 37 overs.
And Leicestershire could feel hard done by when play did resume as Derbyshire's batsmen struggled in the afternoon session.
Both Rogers and Park were beaten several times as the ball nipped around in helpful conditions and Rogers in particular struggled to find his timing.
Several times the ball came off inside edges and even when Rogers timed a shot he was unable to find the boundaries.
But he battled his way to 50 off 149 balls with 25 of his runs coming in singles.
Park looked in better touch and produced a fine six over long on after advancing down the pitch to Claude Henderson.
But, when trying to sweep off-spinner Jigar Naik, Park was bowled off his pads for 41 to bring to an end a partnership of 83 in 35 overs.
The tea interval arrived with Derbyshire on 140-2 and it did the world of good for Rogers. He looked a completely different player after the break, producing two superb boundaries at the expense of Nathan Buck and glorious straight drive to the ropes off AJ Harris.
Smith was quickly into his stride. He clubbed four successive boundaries in one over off Harris and reached his 50 off 73 balls with eight boundaries.
By now Derbyshire's run rate had increased with Rogers in full flow and the century partnership arrived in 22 overs.
The next landmark was Rogers' century of 230 balls with seven boundaries. There was little Leicestershire could do to stop the flow of runs but Rogers was dropped off the penultimate over of the day at slip by Hylton Ackerman off Henderson.
But at the close with Rogers on 122 and Smith with 74 off 112 balls the visitors were in a powerful position after a day that had brought them 210 runs from 60 overs.
