Marcus Trescothick completed two hundreds in a match at Edgbaston for the second time in his career as Somerset were forced to settle for a sterile draw with Warwickshire in the LV County Championship at Edgbaston.

Having made 105 and 107 against the West Indies in a Test match in Birmingham in 2004, the former England batsman repeated the feat for his county side with scores of 108 and 107 not out.

Giving one chance at mid-wicket off Ant Botha when he had made 75, he reached three figures with 15 fours and a six from 100 balls as Somerset closed out a dead contest by making 156 for four in their second innings.

Ten points could be just enough to keep alive their hopes of reeling in Durham's advantage at the top of Division One. They are now 22 points behind the reigning champions but have played a game more.

A long spell by 40-year-old Andy Caddick and three wickets in seven balls for Alfonso Thomas largely cleared up the main business of the day.

Somerset finally claimed maximum bowling points when Charl Willoughby confirmed Warwickshire's dismissal for 261 by claiming the last two wickets in 14 balls without conceding a run

Caddick, in his last Championship match in Birmingham, and Thomas, who had a spell with Warwickshire in 2007, bowled throughout the morning as the home side faltered after a partnership of 142 by Tony Frost (94) and Jonathan Trott (79).

Losing seven wickets for 58, they strayed from their own high-scoring agenda by failing to make 400 for only the second time in seven home matches.

After hitting 17 fours, Frost was in sight of his first century at Edgbaston since 2002 when he was caught behind as Thomas cut through the middle order.

Having taken this wicket with a superb delivery, climbing and moving away, the paceman again located outside edges to remove Tim Ambrose and Rikki Clarke in successive balls in his next over.

Caddick then made his contribution by flattening Botha's middle stump before he dislodged Trott with a catch by Trescothick at second slip.

With their last specialist batsman gone after collecting 13 fours on his return from the England squad at Headingley, Warwickshire relied on Chris Woakes (13) and Naqaash Tahir (23) to claim a second batting point.

The left seamer's brief appearance in the attack signalled the end of meaningful cricket as a small crowd witnessed the 13th draw in the last 15 Championship matches at Edgbaston. At least Trescothick the craftsman made it worthwhile before Somerset put the game to bed.

The left hander lost four partners - only James Hildreth reaching double figures - but the west countrymen were comfortably 218 ahead when the teams shook hands after a token declaration at 4.50pm.
