A maiden century from Adam Shantry in a remarkable ninth-wicket partnership of 197 with veteran Robert Croft put Glamorgan in control on the third day of their LV County Championship clash against Leicestershire at Colwyn Bay.

Shantry became the first Glamorgan number 10 for 80 years to record a century as Glamorgan made 566 to claim a 253-run lead on first innings.

After the home side resumed on 320 for eight, the last two wickets eventually produced 270 runs.

Leicestershire then reached 77 for two by the close, still 176 behind.

Like he did in the first innings, Jamie Dalrymple broke through in his first over to bowl Greg Smith with a ball which turned appreciably.

And the second wicket fell when Dean Cosker trapped Chris Thompson plum in front.

With only a seven-run lead overnight, Glamorgan did not have any great expectations going into the third day.

But Shantry and Croft looked less and less troubled as the morning session unfolded on a placid pitch, with the result that by lunch skipper Boeta Dippenaar had turned to part-time bowlers in a bid to get him a breakthrough.

And by lunch the ninth wicket pair had reached 414 for eight, having added 94 runs and not offered a single chance.

The pair brought up the 100 partnership in 33.2 overs with Croft reaching his 50 from 135 balls and Shantry soon followed to the landmark from 105 balls.

But the pair did not stop there with Shantry reaching his century with a superbly struck straight four. He went to three figures from 237 balls.

His four-hour innings came to an end, however, next ball when he was bowled by Harry Gurney.

But Croft and David Harrison kept Leicestershire in the field for a bit longer as they added 73 for the 10th wicket as the 39-year-old off spinner recorded the eighth century of his career.

It came from 237 balls with eight fours and a six. Croft was the last man out when he had his middle stump removed by Thompson.
