A first-day washout at Edgbaston delayed a Warwickshire debut in the LV County Championship for the son of former England and Worcestershire swing bowler Phil Newport.
Left handed batsman Nathan Newport is pencilled in for a first appearance against Somerset following Jonathan Trott's call-up to join county colleague Ian Bell in the England squad for the Headingley Test match.
Newport, born in May 1989, shortly before his father took 11 wickets in a two-day defeat for Allan Border's Australians at New Road, was in Worcestershire's Academy until 2006.
Although named in the team to take on Somerset, he will be nominated as the player to stand down should Trott be released by England on Friday morning.
There was never any chance of a start in the county's match at Edgbaston after further soakings for the ground since Australia's batsmen saved the rain-affected Third Test on Monday.
The ground staff managed to mop up surface water around the covers but umpires Mark Benson and Neil Mallender abandoned play for the day at midday.
