Jacques Rudolph's battling 79 propelled Yorkshire to a respectable 232 for six at the Rose Bowl in their Pro40 encounter with Hampshire.
Rudolph's solid but unspectacular innings provided the framework for the Yorkshire score before the South African was dismissed towards the end of the innings trying to accelerate the run rate.
Rudolph and fellow opener Andrew Gale (54) provided Yorkshire with a steady start as the pair quickly amassed a 50 partnership off 65 balls with the traditionally temperamental Rose Bowl wicket showing little sign of movement.
Gale survived an appeal for a run out with 73 on the scoreboard as Michael Carberry's direct hit was unsuccessfully referred to the third umpire.
The following delivery he was then dropped by Hampshire wicketkeeper Tom Burrows trying to cut Sean Ervine's delivery only to succeed in getting a thick top edge.
But Gale's luck finally ran out moments after bringing up his 50 as he skied Billy Taylor's delivery straight to Liam Dawson at mid on.
With Anthony McGrath absent with a damaged thumb, Adam Lyth (25) was promoted up the order and looked in good touch only for Rudolph to send him back when he tried to back up a quick single from the non-striker's end, with Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas producing some fine fielding.
Johnathan Bairstow (1) was on his way the following over attempting a rapid single only to be thwarted by Chris Benham's fine throw.
Rudolph remained a constant and, despite the middle order wobble, brought his 50 up in the 27th over having faced 70 balls.
A decent partnership was growing between him and Gerard Brophy (34) that drove the score towards the 200 mark but Dawson's beautifully-flighted delivery removed Brophy as he was trying to sweep.
With four overs remaining Rudolph hit a huge six off Imran Tahir but then tried to repeat the feat the following ball only to hit the off spinner straight down the throat of Dominic Court.
Richard Pyrah (17) was the last to go reverse sweeping Taylor, with Dawson the recipient on the boundary.
