Three wickets apiece for captain Jamie Dalrymple and James Harris put Glamorgan in a solid position after the first day of their LV County Championship match against Leicestershire at Colwyn Bay.

South African pair HD Ackerman and Boeta Dippenaar rescued the visitors with a partnership of 152 for the third wicket before Leicestershire were bowled out for 313 as the last five wickets fell for 39,.

Dalrymple, meanwhile, recorded figures of three for 11 off seven overs.

In reply Glamorgan, who were without the injured Herschelle Gibbs,

closed on 45 for nought after surviving 11 overs in the last 40 minutes.

Despite winning the toss on a pitch renowned as batsman friendly Leicestershire found themselves eight for two inside the opening six overs with both openers back in the pavilion.

Greg Smith was adjudged leg before to Harris, although the ball appeared to strike him high on the pad, while Chris Thompson, on first-class debut, was caught behind off David Harrison for a 13-ball duck.

But as the threat of the new ball lessened Ackerman and Dippenaar dug in either side of lunch.

Ackerman, who has scored three centuries against Glamorgan in the previous three years, led the way with a 57-ball half century.

He was given a life on 46 when Mark Wallace, standing up to left-arm seamer Adam Shantry put down a sharp chance with Leicestershire 85 for two.

After Leicestershire reached lunch at 125 for two Harris produced an impressive afternoon spell from the Embankment End which saw him take two wickets in three overs.

First the teenager claimed the prized wicket of Ackerman, who was bowled via an inside edge eight short of his century, and then he trapped James Taylor leg before to leave the visitors 174 for four in the 44th over.

Captain Dippenaar had played the anchor role on his way to fifty, but he lost his patience when he was bowled taking a swipe at Dean Cosker in the slow left-armer's first over after lunch.

Wicket-keeper Tom New and Jacques Du Toit took the score from 215 for five to 274 before both fell to Dalrymple in the space of two overs, both going to sharp catches by Tom Maynard at slip.

Though Claude Henderson ensured the third batting point he saw partner Andrew Harris run out coming back for a second run and number Harry Gurney, caught and bowled by Cosker.
