Publicist Max Clifford has predicted England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff could
be a multi-millionaire by the end of the year.
Flintoff, who was named man of the series last night after England won the
Ashes, has all the assets to appeal to potential sponsors, said Clifford.
Rising talent Kevin Pietersen could also be a top earner, and Michael Vaughan
could receive a knighthood for his efforts in leading the team to victory, the
publicist added.
He said: "Flintoff is the star. He is good looking, the man of the series,
and has shown great spirit like when he commiserated with Australia after the
last game.
"The sky is the limit for him. He could easily pick up a few million in the
next 12 months."
There is a lot of money in cricket because of the banks and financial
institutions involved, Clifford said.
Pietersen, named man of the match on Monday after scoring a pivotal 158 in
England's second innings, could be another player to benefit.
"Pietersen is a very good looking guy so he would be popular for advertising.
I would say that Flintoff will be the superstar but Pietersen will be someone
who will do tremendously well.
"If Flintoff earns say three million in the next year, Pietersen could earn
one million," the publicist said.
Skipper Vaughan could "potentially" be in line for a knighthood, after
leading England to their first Ashes victory in 18 years, he added.
After the recent defeats in football and with cricket's popularity currently
sky high, Clifford predicted the team could become the highest earning of all
time.
He said: "The earning potential of the whole team is huge. Sponsors do not
have to worry about hooliganism or obscenities. It is a much safer bet and it is
going to get massive coverage.
"A lot of them are young, so they have the potential to be the foundation of
English cricket for a long while.
"The spirit in which they have conducted themselves also gives them a greater
earning potential."
Mr Clifford added: "For us to win so wonderfully with such tremendous support
has lifted the nation at a moment when we really needed it.
"Both teams have been a credit to themselves and to their countries. We have
demonstrated that we have the best team in the world in terms of conduct and
spirit and it has been a real fillip for us. It creates a feeling of good will,
optimism and pride."
