Triumphant England captain Michael Vaughan praised the all-round effort of his
team after securing the draw at The Oval needed to win back the Ashes.
Vaughan's men took the series 2-1 - which looked unlikely after losing at
Lord's in the first Test - winning the Ashes for the first time since 1987.
"An amazing feeling," Vaughan said. "It's been a
roller-coaster.
"You can talk about individuals but the team effort and the management
deserves huge credit
"At the beginning of the summer it was a distant dream but they believe in
their ability."
A jubilant Vaughan added: "I don't know what to say or what to
think. I can't praise the players or management enough.
"Today there was a big challenge facing the guys against Warne and McGrath on
this pitch and the way they've responded has been fantastic.
"It's been a nightmare all summer, living and breathing the Ashes all the way
through and working on my own game.
"We've had a bit of luck along the way, I've won a few vital tosses, but the
lads have got a lot of talent and belief and they've gone out there and
expressed it."
When Glenn McGrath claimed two wickets in two balls England were rocking early on the final day at The Oval and Vaughan
admitted it was "nervous" in the dressing room.
"But we looked at the dismissals and they were fantastic balls so we said
'let's hang in there and make them get us out'," said the captain.
"Although we can talk about individuals it really is a team effort from our
guys and the management have been fantastic all summer.
"We last won it 18 years ago and a lot of players have put in a lot of effort
to get them back over the years.
"The likes of Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Mike Atherton and Nasser Hussain
know how hard it is to get them back and we are the lucky 11 to go out there and
get them back."
