CAMPBELL FOCUSSED
Scotland gymnast Gayle Campbell was so thrilled at the prospect of
representing her country at the Commonwealth Games that she turned down the
chance to compete in the World Championships.
Campbell, 18, gave last year's Worlds in China a miss so that she could
concentrate on her preparations for Manchester.
"I wanted to compete for Scotland in Manchester rather than for Britain in
China," explained Campbell, who is a member of the Falkirk Gymnastics Club.
"My main aim is to do well in the team competition in Manchester and
hopefully make the finals."
Beverley-born team-mate Helen Galashan, a member of Wigan Gymnastics Club, has
a bag full of birthday presents with her in Manchester as she will be 15 on
Tuesday.
The Scottish team were based at a training camp in Benfield, Newcastle, before
heading to Manchester to complete final preparations.
Lynne Donaghy, 15, a member of the City of Glasgow club, has been impressed
with the gymnastics venue at the G-MEX.
"Facilities are very good and we're getting used to the equipment," she
said.
