EADIE BRANDS ENGLAND SPRINTERS 'SOFT'
By Scott Dougal, PA International
Australian silver medallist Sean Eadie has thrown the gauntlet down to
England's team sprinters, dismissing the home riders as soft.
Eadie came second in an Australian sweep of the medal places losing the
gold/silver final to Ryan Bayley while Jobie Dajka won the bronze race against
England's Jamie Staff.
The trio are likely to make up the Australian line-up for the team sprint with
Staff working with Olympic gold medallist Jason Queally and Andy Slater.
Staff, in his first year as a track rider, did well to reach the last four but
Eadie believes the Englishmen lack the aggression needed to win sprint events.
He said: "They couldn't race their way out of a one-door room. Jamie Staff,
if he races a lot in the next 12 months, he will be awesome.
"But if they came down to Australia they wouldn't stand a chance. The racing
you've seen here - that's just a standard Saturday night back home - not in
terms of speed but in the intensity and ferocity."
Eadie, who listens to Metallica before races to psyche himself up, is a
qualified primary school teacher.
