Marsh after being knocked out (Allsport).
MARSH BACK ON HIS FEET
By Mark Staniforth, PA Sport
Matthew Marsh was back at the Wythenshawe Forum to cheer on his team-mates
less than seven hours after walking into a crushing right-hand punch which sent
him to hospital.
The West Ham flyweight spent two hours under observation at Hope Hospital in
Manchester after being knocked unconscious in the second round of his fight with
South African Nzimeni Msutu.
Later he was allowed back to the athletes' village - and made it to
Wythenshawe in time to see his team-mate Darren Barker breeze into the
quarter-finals of the light-welterweight competition.
Marsh described his defeat as a "setback" and insisted: "I'm disappointed
but it's something I have to overcome. Better fighters than me have overcome
bigger setbacks."
Earlier his coach Ian Irwin had said: "I hope he stays here and remains part
of the team because it is important they keep supporting each other right up to
the closing ceremony."
