Ferguson - delighted with Games haul (Allsport)
FERGUSON 'AMAZED' BY TRIPLE SUCCESS
By Andy Schooler, in Manchester
Treble gold-medal winner Debbie Ferguson reflected on an “amazing” Games after completing the hat-trick in the sprint relay.
The Bahamian athlete's performances have been overshadowed by English success on the track, but the history books show she will go down as one of the stars of the Games.
She said: “It's just amazing – I wish this was the Olympics. But I'm thankful regardless just to be at such a fantastic meet.
“To get three golds, set three Commonwealth records, I'm just proud to be part of the Bahamas team.”
Ferguson said she had not expected such success, in fact revealing she had not felt 100 per cent fit coming into the Games.
“I was a little bit weak and felt I was just going to go through the motions.
“Still I was quite confident in the 200m, but in the 100m I knew I was more of an underdog.”
She added: “It was a terrible season at the beginning but I persevered.
”Now I've got to push Marion Jones and Zhanna (Pintusevich-Block, the world 100m champion), to get better and be number one in the world.”
