GAMES TRACK TO HAVE NEW LEASE OF LIFE
The athletics track at the City of Manchester Stadium will enjoy a new lease
of life in Birmingham after the Commonwealth Games come to a close.
Sport England are drawing up plans to transport the majority of the track to
the National Indoor Arena in time for the World Indoor Athletics Championships
next March.
The track was due to be made redundant after the Games when the stadium is
converted for use by Manchester City.
Sport England chief executive David Moffett said: "I am delighted that the
track can be used in Birmingham for what will be another terrific event.
"This is an excellent use of the track after the City of Manchester Stadium
is converted for football.
"It is one more example of the affordable games that will leave a legacy of
sport rather than a legacy of debt and all the equipment purchased with lottery
money for the games will be re-distributed to venues around the country."
