Former British Olympic Association general secretary Dick Palmer has been appointed to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games bid team as an international adviser.
Palmer, who has been in Melbourne to attend the 18th Commonwealth Games, met with representatives of the Glasgow bid team last week.
As well as acting as general secretary of the BOA for 20 years, from 1977, he has served on the evaluation committee for the last three Commonwealth Games, in Kuala Lumpur, Manchester and Melbourne.
His role with the Glasgow team will be primarily concerned with drawing up the bid document, though he will also act an adviser on key influencers in the Commonwealth Games Federation and work with the bid team in persuading the voters of the strenght of Glasgow's case.
"I am delighted that Dick has agreed to join the team," said Derek Casey, the Glasgow 2014 bid director. "There are few people in world sport that have as much knowledge, expertise and experience of the bidding process for major games.
"Our initial presentations here in Melbourne seem to have impressed the voters. We have left them in no doubt that Glasgow is committed to deliver a fantastic Games in 2014. With Dick Palmer on board I am sure that our bid will continue to grow in strength. When we go to Sri Lanka in 18 months we will be ready to win."
Palmer will receive a retainer of £2,000 a month plus expenses.
