England's 4x400m women's relay squad were controversially disqualified after bagging gold.
The team took advantage of a dreadful blunder by Jamaica to storm home in front.
England's celebrations were cut short however, when it was announced they had been disqualified from the event with Danvers-Smith accused of blocking Tamsyn Lewis at the changeover for the third leg.
Danvers-Smith said: "As far as I'm concerned, England are the 4x400m Commonwealth Games champions."
And she was backed up by Australian Jana Pittman, who ran the first leg, who admitted: "England are the winners of the race."
England's men finished fourth in the 4x400m relay - the final event of the Games - but were considering an appeal after Marlon Devonish was blocked at the start of the third leg.
Devonish eventually handed over to Martyn Rooney in fourth place and, although Rooney threatened to get into the medals on the home straight, the youngster was overtaken by South Africa and Jamaica, with Australia clear in first place.
