England's Jade Johnson missed out on a medal in the long jump by just two centimetres at the Commonwealth Games.
Johnson, who won silver in Manchester four years ago, jumped a season's best of 6.55m in the fifth round but had to settle for fifth place as Australian Bronwyn Thompson took gold.
"It's a bit irritating,'' said the 25-year-old Londoner, who missed most of last season with a back injury. "I was in much better shape than that. I was having a problem with my run-up.
"I'm very disappointed, I don't come to championships not to go for a medal. I felt in great shape and it just didn't happen.
"It shows you can never take it for granted.''
Thompson was an easy winner, her best leap of 6.97m easily enough for her to claim the title.
