The Commonwealth Games Federation have confirmed that two Indian weightlifters have tested positive for the banned substance stanozolol.
There were reports from India on Thursday, with Indian team officials as the source, that Edwin Raju and Tejinder Singh had tested positive.
But the CGF will not formally name the weightlifters until their case has been heard by the ad hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with a hearing schedled for 10am local time on Saturday.
CGF president Mike Fennell said: "I can confirm there have been two positive drugs tests."
CGF chief executive Mike Hooper, explaining the drug-testing process, said: "We received late yesterday afternoon the positive results on the B samples.
"The matter has now been referred to the ad hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport and we will not be naming the athletes until after that hearing."
Hooper revealed that the positive results for the A samples for the duo were received on Saturday and the CGF medical commission and the CGF court were advised.
Letters were delivered to the Indian chef de mission on Sunday advising him of the failed A sample tests and of the athletes' suspension from the Games.
The letters request a 24-hour response and on Monday the CGF received a letter from each athlete requesting a B sample.
The B samples were taken on Wednesday and the positive results of the B samples were received on Thursday.
The weightlifters were tested before the Games began.
Raju finished fourth in the men's 56kg class while Singh withdrew from the men's 85kg class on Monday.Melbourne 2006 chairman Ron Walker, voicing his frustration at the slowness of the CGF's drug testing procedures, said: "I would agree that there must be a better way of doing this so that it is more seamless."
