Reading forward Simon Mantell is the latest player to be given the responsibility - some may argue burden - of scoring goals for England.
After some impressive performances for the under-21s last year in an ultimately disappointing Junior World Cup campaign, he was promoted to the senior side in November, making his debut against Ireland in Nottingham.
But the 21-year-old really announced his arrival with five goals in three matches, including four in one game, as England won their first series in South Africa in January with a 3-0 whitewash.
Those performances earned Mantell, who has scored seven Premier League goals for his club this season, selection for the Commonwealth Games squad after just four caps for the senior side.
He follows elder brother Richard, the Reading defender who has earned a reputation as a penalty-corner specialist, into the squad - although he has struggled with fitness in the last year after cruciate knee ligament surgery.
However, the pair will link up at the World Cup qualifying tournament in China immediately after the Commonwealths, allowing Richard a few more weeks to get up to match fitness.
"The tour to South Africa was great. I was pleased with my performances over there. It took a little bit to get into it and I am still getting used to the standard but I enjoyed it," Simon said.
"Hopefully I can add something to the squad. Getting goals is what I am aiming for and hopefully I will continue to do so.
"The Commonwealths is the biggest tournament I have been involved in. Personally I would like to get some goals out there and for the team to be successful. I think we have a good chance.
"This is a big opportunity for me and I'm looking to cement my place in the side."
Much will be expected of Mantell as coach Jason Lee looks to mould together a relatively young squad with plenty of potential into a side which, in two years' time, will be looking to push the world's top six - Australia, Holland, Germany, Spain, Pakistan and India.
England have not had a really consistent goalscorer for a number years but Mantell has the talent to compete on the international stage, providing of course he receives the service.
"It is a really exciting for us as a team. It is a very young squad but hopefully we can bring some success to England because we are starting to play some good hockey, we showed that out in South Africa," added Mantell.
"If we can follow that form into the Commonwealth Games then we have a chance to do well.
"It is my first tournament with the seniors and it is the biggest tournament I have been in.
"Personally I would like to get some goals out there and for the team to be successful. And I think we have a good chance.
"We are definitely aiming for a medal but we also have to move forward as a team. What we are working towards is very much long-term but a medal would be nice."
England, who are the third highest-ranked team in their pool, start off against New Zealand on March 17 before playing further matches against Scotland, Australia and Canada.
