Manchester City have denied reports a deal has been reached to bring Cameroon
international Marc-Vivien Foe to Maine Road.
French club Lyon announced on their website on Friday they had agreed a
season-long loan for the 27-year-old midfielder, with a view to a permanent move
to the Premiership new boys.
However, Manchester City issued a statement on their own official
website, www.mcfc.co.uk, playing down the speculation.
The statement read: "Reports from France, where the midfielder plays his
domestic football with Lyon, claimed a deal had been done that would see the
former West Ham man move to Manchester on loan for the whole of next season,
with a view to a permanent move.
"City though have dampened the speculation by confirming to www.mcfc.co.uk
that no deal has been done with the player, currently at the World Cup, or his
club.
"Foe has been one of a number of players linked with a move to Maine Road,
and although the player has made favourable noises towards returning to the
Premiership, City stress no deal has yet been reached."
City boss Kevin Keegan has embarked on a remarkable spending spree since
guiding his side to the Nationwide One title and Foe would be his sixth new
recruit if indeed a deal eventually goes through to secure the players'
services.
The Maine Road boss has already considerably strengthened his squad by signing
Nicolas Anelka, Sylvain Distin, Vicente Vuoso, Mikkel Bischoff and Tyrone
Loran.
Keegan also clinched the signing of former Aston Villa and Manchester United
goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel before the end of the season.
When Anelka completed his move on Thursday, Keegan commented: "I am very happy
with the way things have gone.
"I expect to make one more signing before the start of the season."
Foe helped Lyon to the title last season after an 18-month spell in England
with West Ham.
Before moving to Upton Park he spent five years with Lens, where he also
picked up a championship winners' medal.
A spokesman for Lyons told www.olympiquelyonnais.com: "Foe should sign a
contract in the next few days which would take him to Manchester City for a year
in the Premiership.
"There will be the option of purchasing the player after a year since Marco
is still under contract with Olympique Lyonnais for two years.
"An agreement between the two clubs was found and the Cameroon player should
make the decision soon."
