Paraguay's goalscoring goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert is putting in extra hours on the training ground practising his free-kicks - and that could spell bad news for Spain.

The eccentric keeper should make his World Cup bow against the Spanish on June 7 after missing Paraguay's opening Group B match against South Africa because of suspension.

And the Strasbourg stopper, who has scored more than 50 goals during his career, is itching for a chance to add to the four goals he netted in qualifying.

The colourful Paraguay captain has been staying behind every day after training to practice his free kicks.

"Yesterday I scored seven out of 10. I sent two wide, and one hit the woodwork. It's not bad," he said.

Chilavert misses the South Africa match as he received a ban for spitting on Brazil defender Roberto Carlos during a qualifying match.

The veteran keeper may start Sunday's friendly against J-League outfit Urawa Reds Diamonds on the bench, with Ricardo Tavarelli stepping in.

Tavarelli is likely to be Chilavert's replacement against South Africa and coach Cesare Maldini will want the player to get some match practice in.

Definitely out of Sunday's game is Francisco Arce, who is struggling with a muscle problem.

"We decided to leave him out as a precaution because we're too close to the World Cup," said Paraguay team doctor Agustin Casaccia.

The game against Urawa is Paraguay's second in Japan following their 3-1 defeat of Jubilo Iwata.
