BRAZIL v GERMANY MINUTE-BY-MINUTE

Post-match: Ronaldo is carried shoulder high across the pitch before going to salute the Brazil fans. It's a wonderful storyline after his troubles during and since the 1998 World Cup final. Sportingly, Germany coach Rudi Voeller offers his congratulations to Ronaldo as the two men share a smile and handshake.

Man-of-the-match: Easy. Ronaldo! The pressure which got to him in 1998 was immense again this time but after missing two chances in the first-half he had the bottle to put away the two goals that gave Brazil glory.

90 mins: Brazil run down the clock and shortly after Denilson is fouled on the left, Collina blows his whistle. It's full-time and Brazil have won the World Cup for a fifth time!

90 mins: Ziege tries a shot but Marcos saves.

90 mins: Denilson does a succession of stepovers before crossing to the far post but Juninho can't get the ball under control.

90 mins: The game goes into the second minute of injury-time.

90 mins: Rivaldo and then Juninho almost break clear but Germany block them out on the edge of the area.

90 mins: There will be three minutes of added time.

90 mins: Denilson runs through his party-pieces straight away but is eventually bundled off the ball.

90 mins: Brazil bring on Denilson for two-goal hero Ronaldo.

89 mins: Germany win a free-kick midway inside the Brazil half. Ziege floats it into the area but Metzelder steers his header well wide.

88 mins: Germany need a miracle now with time running out.

87 mins: Roberto Carlos gets a vital head to the ball to deny Asamoah at the far post.

86 mins: Brazil break quickly and Juninho has a great chance to put Rivaldo clear on goal but overhits his pass.

85 mins: Germany waste a great chance as the ball is swung in from the right and Christoph Metzelder hesitates when unmarked at the far post.

85 mins: Brazil bring on Juninho for Ronaldinho.

84 mins: Hamann's volley bounces up and over the bar. Bode goes off for Christian Ziege as Voeller makes his last substitution.

83 mins: A fantastic save from Marcos as Frings finds Bierhoff who drives a snapshot towards goal.

82 mins: Linke tries a shot as the corner is headed out to the edge of the box but it strikes Lucio who needs to go off for treatment.

81 mins: Bode wins a corner on the left as the desperate Germans push forward.

80 mins: Linke's cross is overhit and Brazil bring the ball clear.

79 mins: GOAL - RONALDO. The number nine gets his second! Kleberson rolls the ball across from the right, Rivaldo dummies it and Ronaldo sidefoots it home. 2-0 to Brazil. Ronaldo now has eight goals in the tournament.

78 mins: Kleberson gets in a good cross but there's no yellow shirt in the middle.

77 mins: Another substitution as Jeremies is replaced by Gerald Asamoah.

76 mins: Germany win a free-kick 35 yards out. Hamann drills it towards goal but Brazil block it.

75 mins: Germany win another corner as Frings' hopeful shot is deflected wide. Rivaldo heads it clear at the near post.

73 mins: Germany need to make changes and Oliver Bierhoff comes on for fellow striker Klose.

72 mins: A buccaneering run from Lucio sees him beat a succession of players but his cross is intercepted.

71 mins: Jeremies' deflected shot flies just wide but Germany win another corner. Neuville takes and Marcos palms awkwardly away to give Germany another corner. This time the whistle goes for an infringement and Brazil have a free-kick.

70 mins: Kleberson tries to find Rivaldo with a back-heel after powering down the right but Germany intercept.

69 mins: Germany win a corner. Brazil head clear and Frings tries his luck from distance but his shot is well over.

68 mins: Ronaldo now has seven goals in the tournament and looks a certainty to win the Golden Boot. It's the first time a player has scored seven goals in the finals since Lato of Poland in 1974.

68 mins: GOAL - BRAZIL. Ronaldo puts Brazil in front as Khan fumbles Rivaldo's long-range effort and Ronaldo is first to the rebound.

67 mins: Jeremies returns to the action as Germany take a free-kick which causes anxiety in the Brazil defence before they hack clear.

66 mins: The game resumes with Germany temporarily down to ten men.

64 mins: Jeremies needs lengthy treatment after a challenge from Cafu.

63 mins: Marcos has to save at his near post after Schneider's ball in just eludes Neuville.

62 mins: Ramelow makes a great tackle to snuff out the danger from Rivaldo.

61 mins: A slight delay in play as Edmilson has to replace his ripped shirt and he can't get the new one on.

60 mins: Cafu and Ronaldinho play a nice one-two on the right but Cafu's pass is in front of Rivaldo and Ronaldo and runs across the box to safety.

59 mins: Ronaldo takes it but hits it straight into the wall and Germany win a free-kick as Brazil try to press again.

58 mins: Edmilson skips past two players and feeds Rivaldo who wins a free-kick just outside the area.

57 mins: Hamann bursts from deep and unleashes a fierce shot but it's too high.

56 mins: Ronaldinho tries to scoop a pass through to Rivaldo in the penalty area but the German defence clear.

55 mins: Frings fires an angled shot over the bar after Germany work the ball well across the edge of the area.

54 mins: Klose works a promising position outside the Brazilian box but then skews a shot wide.

53 mins: Rivaldo threads a ball through to Ronaldo on the edge of the box but his attempted curler is well blocked by Ramelow.

52 mins: Roberto Carlos swings in a cross and Khan blocks it on his line after Gilberto Silva's header looks goalbound.

51 mins: Ronaldo wins a corner on the left.

50 mins: Germany press again and win a corner but Brazil head clear.

49 mins: Neuville lets loose with a thunderbolt of a free-kick and Marcos touches the ball onto the post. Neuville holds his head in his hands. Both sides have now hit the woodwork.

48 mins: Brazil are enjoying early possession in the second half but Germany then win a free-kick 35 yards out.

47 mins: Neuville swings it in and Jeremies has a free header from close range but Edmilson's foot blocks it and Brazil clear. It's Germany's best chance so far.

46 mins: Germany force a corner in the opening minute of the second period.

46 mins: Germany get the second 45 minutes under way. Neither team has made a substitution.

45 mins: Collina blows his whistle to end the first period. Germany have got it tactically spot on but the best chances have fallen to Brazil who looked to be coming on strong towards the end of the first-half.

45 mins: A dramatic finish to the opening 45 minutes as Roberto Carlos fires the ball into the area. It breaks to Ronaldo who slams a left-foot shot against the legs of Khan.

45 mins: Lucio wins a corner in first half stoppage time but it's headed clear.

44 mins: A superb right-foot strike from Kleberson strikes the crossbar. It's the closest we've been to a goal yet.

43 mins: Schneider wins a free-kick midway in the Brazil half. It's taken quickly to Jeremies whose cross is cleared.

42 mins: Kleberson bursts towards goal after hesitancy in the German defence but he pulls his left-foot shot wide.

40 mins: Edmilson does well to come across and stop a dangerous German attack. But the men in white win it back and Jeremies has a go from 25 yards but it flies high and wide.

39 mins: Ronaldinho is caught in possession again. Germany continue to be first to the ball.

38 mins: Rivaldo wins a free-kick after attempting a sliding tackle in his own half. It highlights the fact that the number 10 is having to drop deep to get into the game.

37 mins: Germany can't profit from the corner as the whistle goes for a foul.

36 mins: Carsten Ramelow comes up from the back and tries a shot which is blocked. Schneider then wins Germany another corner.

35 mins: A crunching tackle by Thomas Linke on Ronaldo sees Germany win back possession. Then Ronaldinho is knocked off the ball.

33 mins: Ronaldinho wins a free-kick and Brazil string together some nice passes before the ball is played out wide to Cafu but he's blocked off.

32 mins: Germany continue to hustle Brazil off the ball. This time it's Ronaldinho who is caught dallying.

31 mins: Germany break down the other end and win a corner but Brazil clear their lines.

30 mins: Ronaldo almost gets in again as Ronaldinho's chipped pass puts him clear on goal but he has to stretch for the ball and Khan smothers his attempt.

29 mins: Again Bode's touch is heavy as Schneider releases him in a dangerous position in the Brazil box.

28 mins: Bode's touch lets him down as the ball breaks to him on the edge of the Brazilian box.

26 mins: Robert Carlos drives a ball into the box after nice Brazilian passing but it's booted clear.

25 mins: Bode almost gets his head to the corner but is just blocked out in the six-yard box.

24 mins: Torsten Frings crosses from the right and Brazil head clear but the Germans get the ball back and win a corner.

23 mins: We're halfway through the opening half and it's Germany who are dominating the match.

22 mins: Rivaldo is almost caught in possession in his own half but is slightly fortunate to win a free-kick.

21 mins: Lucio runs from deep and Ronaldo almost plays him in on goal but Germany block the pass.

20 mins: Good possession from Germany ends with a ball into the box which is headed clear.

19 mins: At last a flowing Brazilian move as Kleberson finds Ronaldinho whose clever pass puts Ronaldo through on goal but he shoots wide from close range with his left-foot.

18 mins: Germany are snapping in with their tackles as Brazil struggle to get into their flow.

17 mins: Germany break again and Neuville wins a free-kick. The underdogs have started very well.

16 mins: The corner is cleared and the impressive Schneider wins a free-kick out near the right touchline after a foul by Roberto Carlos. He takes it himself but it comes to nothing and Brazil have a goal-kick.

15 mins: Schneider gets clear on the left this time and again crosses dangerously and it's cleared at the near post for a corner with Klose sniffing.

14 mins: Brazil slow the pace down as they try and build an attack.

13 mins: More good play by Germany down the right flank and Didi Hamann's long-range shot is blocked by a Brazilian boot.

12 mins: Roberto Carlos tries to find Rivaldo but overhits his pass and it runs behind. Brazil haven't got into the game yet with the 'three R's' still quiet.

10 mins: Good skill from Neuville. He finds Schneider who crosses dangerously into the box and Edmilson has to make a vital interception to deny Klose. From the corner, the whistle goes for a Brazilian free-kick.

9 mins: A yellow card for Miroslav Klose after he catches Edmilson with his arm. That's two bookings inside the first 10 minutes.

8 mins: A mistake in the German defence allows Kleberson to win possession and try a shot from outside the box but it's straight at Khan.

7 mins: Bernd Schneider takes it short and Neuville's shot is blocked in the box before Brazil eventually clear.

6 mins: Germany win a free-kick out on the right.

5 mins: Ronaldo gets on the ball for the first real time but he has to drop deep to do so. He links nicely with Rivaldo before the move breaks down. Germany win possession and Roque Junior is booked for a foul on Oliver Neuville.

4 mins: Germany's first attack and Marco Bode's cross is missed by two Brazilian defenders before Roberto Carlos clears.

3 mins: Kleberson skips clear of Jens Jeremies on the right flank but his cross is too near to Oliver Khan who makes an easy catch.

1 min: Ronaldinho runs at the German defence down the left and wins the first corner. He takes it himself but it clears everyone and curls behind.

1 min: Brazil kick off in front of an expectant and noisy crowd in Yokohama. They launch the ball forward but it goes for a German goal-kick.

Pre-match: The teams are announced and, unlike the drama four years ago over Ronaldo, there's no surprises. Brazil line up as Marcos, Edmilson, Lucio, Roque Junior, Cafu, Kleberson, Gilberto, Carlos, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo. Germany, as expected, replace the suspended Michael Ballack with Jens Jeremies. Their starting XI is Kahn, Linke, Ramelow, Metzelder, Frings, Schneider, Jeremies, Hamann, Bode, Neuville, Klose.
