Jimmy Fortune shrugged off missing the Breeders' Cup by again showing he is a match for the best with a cracking ride to win the totesport.com November Handicap on John Gosden's Charm School.
Ella went for home early in the straight in her bid to emulate her mother Flossy by winning the mile-and-a-half test, but a furlong or so out Hillview Boy emerged as a very serious danger.
But then Fortune brought 17-2 chance Charm School with a storming run to bravely burst through a gap between the pair about 100 yards out and go one and three-quarter lengths clear of Hillview Boy and Ella, who may now attempt to get some black type in a Group Three race abroad.
Fortune and Gosden had teamed up to win the Lincoln with Expresso Star in the spring.
And clearly delighted to land another big one here, the jockey said: "A few times Charm School has looked unlucky, but you have to ride him that way (come late) - they went quick and then panned out and I got a lovely run up the inside, easy ground and a mile and a half are what he wants."
When asked how he felt about being replaced by Frankie Dettori on the stable's runners at the Breeders' Cup, he added: "It is no use crying or arguing about it, it would make no difference.
"I have had a great year, I have had five Group One winners and plenty of Group Two and Group Three winners and I am third in the prize-money list (for win and place money won by jockeys)."
