NEW SPONSOR FOR COLOGNE
FC Cologne have found a new sponsor after
negotiations with prospective backers Satena Holding collapsed.
The firm had offered 4.35 million euros (£2.9million) a year to emblazon the
Cologne shirts with advertising for the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, but the
deal fell through when the Cypriot government denied any knowledge of an
agreement with the company.
The Bundesliga newcomers have now clinched a deal with a local insurance
company Gerling worth three million euros (£2million) per year.
The reduced revenue from sponsorship will not affect Cologne's plans for next
season, however, confirmed club president Wolfgang Overath.
"We have a budget of over 40 million euros," he said.
"It could only have been a problem if we hadn't found a new partner."
Meanwhile, Overath's club are on course to break the 25,000 mark for season
tickets for the coming season with 23,000 already sold.
