  • Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw.
  • The top club will be promoted, subject to meeting the Scottish Premier League's criteria.
  • The teams finishing second and third will enter a round robin contest with the Premier League's bottom club, subject to them meeting the Socttish Premier League's criteria.
  • The top two clubs in the round robin will play in the Scottish Premier in the 2000-2001 season, with the club finishing last taking its place in Scottish Division One.
  • Should any team finishing in the top three not meet the Premier League's criteria for promotion, it will not be promoted.
  • In this event, there will be no round robin contest and the two teams finishing highest in the division who do meet the criteria will be promoted.
  • The bottom club will be relegated.
  • Teams finishing level on points are separated by goal difference.
  • If goal difference is identical then the team scoring most goals finishes higher.
  • In the event of goal difference and goals scored being identical, a play-off may be held if necessary.
