Erik 'El Terrible' Morales beat a very game Jesus Chavez on points to claim the WBC super-featherweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Morales won a unanimous decision but Chavez won the hearts of many Mexican fans by boxing for more than half the fight with a damaged shoulder.
'El Matator' had to box one-handed from the fifth round, and that proved too tough a task against Morales, widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world today.
Morales had Chavez down and in all sorts of trouble in the second round, but Chavez regrouped and actually had his moments in the fight, despite his injury handicap.
The man from Tijuana (now 46-1) eventually came through 118-108, 117-109, 115-112 on the scorecards to collect the latest title of an illustrious career.
