Poland's Tomasz Adamek claimed the vacant IBF International heavyweight title with a fifth-round TKO victory over fellow countryman Andrew Golota in Lodz on Saturday night.
It was Adamek's (39-1, 27 KOs) first heavyweight bout having moved up from cruiserweight but made the transition in style against his 41-year-old opponent.
Golota (41-8-1, 33 KOs) struggled to cope with Adamek's relentless approach early on and was even sent to the canvas near the end of the first round, but he managed to beat the count and get back to his feet.
A cut above Golota's eye opened in the second round and although he managed to show some resistance, Adamek looked much the sharper.
A huge hook sent Golota down again in the fifth and as Adamek unleashed a flurry of punches to get the job done, the referee had no option but to step in and stop the fight.
