Mongolian Shinny Bayaar won the British flyweight title just months after becoming a British citizen.
Bayaar, based in Oldham and with a decent following from Lancashire, outboxed defending champion Chris Edwards of Stoke over 12 rounds to take a majority decision at the Bolton Arena.
Bayaar looked classy in making a strong start, beating Edwards to the punch regularly and comfortably shaking off anything his opponent threw at him.
Edwards came into the fight in the middle rounds and showed great heart in taking the fight to his polished opponent with an accidental clash of heads aiding his cause by opening a cut over Bayaar's right eye.
However Bayaar upped his game in the championship rounds and took the majority decision with scores of 117-112 and 115-113 in his favour with the other referee scoring it 115-113 for the champion.
