Jones overcame an early hand injury to score a convincing victory over Hopkins and claim the IBF middleweight title. It was to prove Hopkins' last loss for 13 years.

Toney was considered the pound-for-pound number one when he stepped into the ring to face Jones, who was fighting at 12st for the first time. But Jones knocked Toney down and dominated him to win by a wide decision.

v Montell Griffin, Mar 1997

Jones had been stunned to suffer his first loss via disqualification to Griffin five months earlier. In the rematch he made no mistake, flattening Griffin in the first 20 seconds and winning the fight by first round knockout.

v John Ruiz, Mar 2003

Jones' audacious bid to move up and claim a version of the world heavyweight title paid off handsomely as he befuddled and bemused a flat-footed Ruiz to win a wide decision and the WBA title.
