Former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton believes fellow Briton Amir Khan could give pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather "his biggest problem".

Hatton backing for Khan

Rumours are rife that Khan will become unbeaten Mayweather's next opponent in May 2014 in a lucrative bout for the WBC welterweight title.

Critics point out that the Bolton fighter is undeserving of a shot after labouring in recent contests and having never fought at the 147lb limit.

But his supporters, and Hatton is among them, point out that the 26-year-old can match Mayweather for speed and that could pose all sorts of questions for the American.

Hatton, though, who is among Mayweather's 45 victims, was quick to warn Khan that he needs to avoid any gung-ho tactics, with questions still remaining over the former WBA and IBF light-welterweight's chin.

"Amir could give him his biggest problem if Amir doesn't get drawn in, uses his speed and shows loads of movement," Hatton said on Sky Sports News.

"Amir is the only one that could probably match Mayweather for speed. Amir's problem, style-wise and he'll probably tell you this himself, is he likes to have a fight and he's not built to have a fight.

"His best attribute is his boxing ability and his hand speed."
