Burns frustrated by delay

Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez have expressed their frustration at the enforced cancellation of their lightweight unification title fight in London.

Ricky Burns: Left frustrated by fight delay

WBO champion Burns was due to face Mexican IBF belt-holder Vazquez at Wembley Arena on 16 March, but Vazquez was forced to pull out due to a stomach virus.

The fight has been rescheduled for April 20 at the same venue but both fighters were keen to apologise to fans for having to delay the much-anticipated clash.

The postponement is particularly frustrating for Burns, who saw his proposed bout with Liam Walsh last December cancelled after his opponent was involved in a car crash.

Walsh's replacement, Jose Ocampo, also had to pull out following the death of his trainer and Burns must now wait a little longer before finally returning to action.

"Absolutely gutted this fight is not happening, another training camp and it's fallen through!," Burns said on his official twitter account.

"Not only that, feel sorry for the fans, my friends and family who have now booked tickets, flights and hotels for two fights for it to fall through. Sorry everyone!"

Vazquez was also keen to apologise to fight fans for having to reschedule the fight.

"I'm very sorry about this situation. We were at the height of the preparation that was so intense my body was in a great physical condition, strong and fast," he said.

"There were weeks of total dedication and preparation, but the infection I suffered in the stomach was very strong, I even laid down in bed for a week ... but it was the best thing."
