Holyfield - at the end says Magri (Allsport).
MAGRI: "HOLYFIELD HAS COME TO HIS END"
By Mark Staniforth, PA Sport
The real glamour boys and the household names of world championship boxing
will forever be found in the heavyweight division.
But for a moment in the 1980s a skinny flyweight from Bethnal Green took
Britain by storm and proved that the other end of the weight scale could be
equally exciting.
It helped that Charlie Magri hailed from the East End of London, always the
hotbed of British boxing. But he captured everybody's imagination when he beat
Dominican Eleoncio Mercedes in London to capture the WBC flyweight title.
Lennox Lewis has found it harder to garner the country's support, but Magri
thinks he is well on his way and will get a huge boost when he beats Evander
Holyfield at Madison Square Garden tomorrow.
Magri says simply: "I think Holyfield has come to his end.
"Holyfield has had his hard fights. He's got up so many times, and this is
one too many. He got up for Tyson, but I'm not convinced he will for this one.
"I think Lewis will edge it on points."
Lewis' talents are growing on Magri, who believes the WBC champion has not had
the best of luck finding decent opponents on which to test himself.
But Magri fires a warning shot to Lewis too, insisting Holyfield is still a
true warrior who is destined to be remembered as one of the best heavyweights of
all.
"I think if Holyfield knocks Lewis down he'll stop him. But I don't think
Lewis will let him near him. At the same time I don't think Lewis will stop
Holyfield, because Holyfield will go down as one of the all-time greatest.
"Lewis is fresh and has beaten everyone who's been put in front of him, apart
from (Oliver) McCall, who was a lucky one.
"I hope Lennox wins and doesn't go on too long - he's got nothing else to
prove. Lewis is starting to look a great champion now and he's going to show
everyone what he's made of."
