Aberdeen were our tip to be the 'best of the rest' in the SPL this season and that selection looked solid until just a few weeks ago.
The Dons had the chance to top the table with a home win against Inverness on November 27 but lost that one and three of their next four and are now 13 points behind leaders Celtic and even slipped into the bottom six recently.
There's plenty of uncertainty around the club just now with a number of players out of contract at the end of the season and a general feeling, not helped by chairman Stewart Milne's recent comments, that Craig Brown won't be in charge for 2013-14.
They will take a big travelling support to Dundee on Saturday and are odds-on favourites to see off the bottom club. Although they were thumped 4-1 at Motherwell on Boxing Day, Brown's side made plenty of chances and really should have had more to show for their efforts than just Jonny Hayes' strike.
One player who came close to finding the net was midfield veteran Gavin Rae. The former Scotland international has four goals to his name this season and although his last one came in October, he is always a threat as he gets forward to help out his forwards.
Dundee have the worst defensive record in the league so the visitors will create chances again and will be hoping to convert more than they did at Fir Park.
Rae is 6/1 to score at anytime which seems decent value.
On Sunday, Dundee United host St Mirren as they once again bid to win a home game for the first time since August.
They were held on Boxing Day by St Johnstone, a result that represented their sixth draw in seven at Tannadice.
Saints have lost only one of their last seven now and are looking much more solid and difficult to beat than in the last few months.
The draw is rated a 13/5 shot and is well worth backing.
