7.50 Kempton - Master Dancer
No waffle today. I like the look of Master Dancer coming back in trip to a mile at Kempton this evening.
A good friend, who has been punting for many years more than me with considerably more success, recently described the horse to me as "a right dog", but I'm going to take the chance to disagree.
His problem so far this season has been that he can't get over the idea that racing is about running as hard as you can for as far as you can. But moving back to a mile opens up new options for him this evening and I wouldn't be altogether surprised to see him return to the frontrunning tactics that saw him make all for his only previous success, at Windsor last season.
Alternatively, if they try and go for hold-up tactics, there's hope that the faster pace of this race will allow him to settle better in the early stages. Most of his rivals have, at some stage, gone from the front in the past so there is sufficient hope that there could be a sufficiently fast pace.
Either way, I hope to prove my friend wrong. Once the penny drops, I suspect Master Dancer will go on to prove himself a well-handicapped horse. Personally, I hope he does so this evening.
