The Bayern Munich forward led the way in Germany's convincing victory with a treble in Salvador.

Mats Hummels scored the other goal for Joachim Low's side.

Portugal were already 2-0 down before they imploded completely with Pepe shown a straight red card for a light head-butt on Muller before half-time.

Muller is now at the head of 888sport's top goalscorer betting at 4/1.

Brazil striker Neymar is second in the market at 11/2 with BetVictor and 888sport, Argentina star Lionel Messi is 15/2, Holland's Robin van Persie can be backed at 8/1, while France forward Karim Benzema is a 9/1 shot with bet365.

Germany have been cut to 5/1 by Coral to win the World Cup.

Brazil head the outright market at 10/3. Argentina are the closest contenders to the hosts at 4/1.

The United States beat Ghana's 2-1 in the other opening Group G match.

Jurgen Klinsmann's men are now available at evens to make it to the last 16.

Germany are fully expected to reach the knockout stages at 1/100. Portugal are 11/10 to qualify from Group G and Ghana are out at 8/1 with William Hill.

"The USA have once again pulled of a big result at the World Cup and given themselves a good chance now according to the betting of getting out of a tough group," said Coral's John Hill.

The day's other match in Brazil saw Nigeria draw 0-0 with Iran in Group F.

Argentina, who defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 on Sunday, are the 1/100 favourites to make it out of that section.

Bosnia have been cut to 8/11 by BetVictor for a place in the last 16. Nigeria and Iran can be backed at 13/5 and 7/1 respectively.
