Racing tip of the day

I was looking to make early excuses, blame a hectic Bank Holiday schedule for a less than imaginative selection. But I can’t. Only the six meetings in the UK and Ireland today.

William Haggas: Holds Wonderstruck in high regard
William Haggas: Holds Wonderstruck in high regard

So without apology to the tip. It’s Wonderstruck in the Bet toteexacta Breeders Backing Racing EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Leicester.

I’m a little surprised to see she’s close to evens this morning but this looks a two-filly race with the selection renewing rivalry with Rewaaya.

The pair finished third and fourth respestively in what looked a very warm Ascot maiden on debut just over a fortnight ago (winner going on to strike in Listed company over the weekend).

True Rewaaya was green in the closing stages but so was Wonderstruck who was ridden more positively and experienced more of the heat of battle, and was still three lengths in front of her rival.

Held in the highest regard by the William Haggas team (who had Classic aspirations about her in the spring), she can confirm her superiority over her Ascot rival and break her maiden at the second time of asking.

The 73 rated Asteroidea is next in the market indicating this is very much a match between the two at the top of the market. Wonderstruck comfortably had the measure of Rewaaya the last day. She can come out on top again here.
