DOUBLE: Verrazano and Aeolus.

Verrazano faces the acid test in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and he can rise to the challenge on his European bow.

Aidan O'Brien is pitching his new American recruit in at the deep end in the Group One feature, but success at the highest level would be nothing new to the four-year-old son of More Than Ready.

He won the Grade One Wood Memorial over nine furlongs at Aqueduct last April before the 10 furlongs of the Kentucky Derby on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs saw him finish well down the Classic field.

Verrazano bounced back to triumph at the highest level in the Haskell Invitational, a race which is traditionally one of the hottest of the American campaign, but his fourth in the Breeders' Cup Mile on the dirt was a touch disappointing as he put up no sort of fight.

He signed off for Todd Pletcher with a fair third in the Cigar Mile and obviously it is tough to get a handle on the relative merit of his form as he switches to turf and appears to have a dirt pedigree.

That said, More Than Ready has had plenty of turf success in Australia through the likes of More Joyous, and O'Brien is shrewd enough to have found a starting point that, bar Olympic Glory, does not appear to be that strong.

With the ground drying out at Newbury, the favourite could find the going against him, which makes Verrazano a well-priced option.

Sky Hunter can get back on the winning track in the JLT Aston Park Stakes after a lacklustre display on his first Godolphin start at Sandown last month.

Third in last year's French Derby, the four-year-old did himself no favours in the Gordon Richards Stakes as he was under restraint from the start before finding nothing for pressure on testing ground.

Sky Hunter should surely have come on a bit from that run and while he has a bit to prove now, the switch down to Listed company should see him put his head in front again.

Aeolus has some top-notch form in the book and is the choice in the Tamdown King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket.

Second behind subsequent Guineas hero Night Of Thunder on his final juvenile start, Aeolus made a fair start to 2014 when a close-up third in the European Free Handicap.

The winner that day, Shifting Power, went on to finish fourth in the Guineas and Aeolus deserves even more credit for the performance as he had a far from ideal passage.

Stars Above Me is the pick in the Sprint Trophy, a race trainer Roger Charlton bagged with Mince a couple of years ago.

She was far too keen on her reappearance at this track earlier this month and just got caught out by a race-fit rival when push came to shove.

Stars Above Me should strip fitter this time and her mark of 91 offers some wriggle room at this stage.

Pinzolo can stake his Classic claim with victory in the Tamdown Fairway Stakes.

Serata Di Gala can strike at the third time of asking in the China Rose of Bawtry Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Doncaster, while Tax Free can defy his advancing years with victory in Thirsk's Happy Birthday Mike Wood Handicap.

Afternoon jumps action comes courtesy of Bangor, where Chalk It Down should go well in the Injured Jockeys Fund 50th Anniversary Handicap Hurdle.

Speedy Tunes looks a likely winner of the Towergate Novices' Hurdle at Uttoxeter.
