The closing novices' hunters' chase at Newton Abbot contains the bet of the day - and this isn't an April Fool.

CHOSEN MILAN - 5.10 Newton Abbot

I didn't wake up this morning hoping for a novices' hunters' chase at Newton Abbot, but, there you go. Expect the unexpected.

The thing is, this mare, Chosen Milan, ran on the Stratford card the day before Cheltenham and as attempts were made to bolster the Festival fund, the CGA Foxhunter Novices' Hunters' Chase (For The Credit Call Cup) was the last race I wagered on before the Sky Bet Supreme.

It didn't end well, as Chosen Milan was beaten into second by an 80/1 shot - setting the tone for the week - but, just a head behind, she ran with great credit dropped in trip and promised to deliver next time.

So, today is the day.

She handles soft ground, as he showed at Stratford, on that evidence this 2m5f trip is ideal, she gets 11lb from main market rival Certain Flight (which could be crucial in the testing conditions) and today's jockey got a good tune out of her last time, despite that narrow defeat.

Certain Flight is a danger, of course. He was 13th in the Fox Hunters' at Cheltenham and had won easily at Huntingdon prior to that.

While he won't be lacking for stamina, this trip might be a touch on the short side and with the handy weight allowance in-form mare Chosen Milan gets the nod.
