Atlantic Roller 3.15 Doncaster
Life has been harder than it should be this morning.
An accumulation of events led to a posse of people having a giggle queuing for train tickets as I struggled to control a fried egg in my breakfast bap.
I literally had egg on my face (and my coat and boots) but I've since cleaned myself up and vowed to get through the day without further embarrassment, which means keeping things simple.
With that in mind I'm going to turn to a Paul Nicholls-trained hurdler stepping up in trip in a handicap at Doncaster this afternoon for the tip of the day.
Atlantic Roller is the horse, and with the exploits of Saphir Du Rheu and Irish Saint fresh in the mind (two horses who looked like different animals when stepping up in trip) he appeals at prices as big as 15/8.
Of course, not every horse that Nicholls steps up in trip is going to improve for the extra distance, but this fellow, being a half-brother to Pete The Feat, surely will.
He looked very good when winning a novices' hurdle at Exeter and probably needed the run when he was midfield in a competitive Cheltenham handicap on his seasonal reappearance.
Nicholls looks to have found the perfect race for him today. A nice small-field handicap over three miles is just the job and main market rival, Tornado Bob, looks vulnerable after going back up 5lb for a win at Worcester in the summer.
